French police report that every year at least several thousand teenage girls are reported missing from Paris. The police believe that these girls have been abducted into Arab countries for prostitution, but they have no evidence to prove it. Also, people have claimed to have actually seen auctions in Africa, where abducted white women from Europe were being sold to Arab customers. This section details some of the incidents of kidnapped women who were able to escape and report their abuse.

The following is the reported experience of one French woman who had been held as a prostitute slave for several years in Africa:

Veronique had been a prostitute for several years when her pimp kidnapped her four children, held them hostage, and threatened to kill them if she did not obey him and follow the arrangements he made for her to go to Dakar [Senegal]. Fearing for her children's safety, she went. There, she was enslaved in a brothel for two years, during which time there was no opportunity to leave the premises, let alone escape. When the ships came in, she was forced to take on up to 100 men a day. After two years of brutal beatings and the horrific demands made on her body, she became seriously ill and was taken to a hospital. There, she confided her story to a doctor, who took pity on her. He contacted the police and helped to arrange for her escape. Upon returning to France, she sought refuge with Le Nid, a French refuge for prostitutes. She contacted the authorities and testified against her pimp. He was found guilty and imprisoned, and Veronique's children were returned to her.

You have to wonder how this could go on right under our noses. I mean prostitution is one thing if it's voluntary, but kidnapping women and selling them as sex slaves and prostitutes in foreign countries? I mean if these people really want to make money that bad, go commit stock fraud. You'll make more with less effort, sure someone will lose their shirts but it's less morally egregious than forced sexual slavery.

I have said repeatedly that those who want reparations for slavery in this country and are oh so upset about slavery, need to direct their energy to stop slave trading that still goes on in the middle east and in Africa, most likely by descendants of those who sold slaves to the US in the 18th and 19th century.

But, we shouldn't say anything bad about the Arab world, the Israel haters and PLO lovers will get upset at us and tell us that Islam is a religion of peace.

Why can't these criminals just counterfeit some Euros for money? Euros are printed on cheap paper and I can probably print some on my color printer. Why do they have to make money from such human suffering?

We've discussed this before, Jeffery. Usually though it's been in the context of UN peacekeeping missions. Wherever they go (Cambodia, Africa, The Balkans, etc.) a huge trade develops in these disgusting crimes involving the UN personel.

This sort of thing makes me want to live in a bunker with perimeter security.

Edited to add, plus lots of guns.

What is the penalty for this sort of thing?

Very. I thought based on your past posts that you understood the UN was a corrupt organization.

UN pledges probe of abuse charges - Refugees' plight blamed on local staff, peacekeepers

By Elizabeth Neuffer, Globe Staff, 2/28/2002

UNITED NATIONS - UN Secretary General Kofi Annan pledged yesterday to swiftly investigate recent allegations of widespread child abuse by aid workers in West Africa and vowed to act against any wrongdoers.

''The secretary general is shocked and disturbed,'' UN spokesman Marie Okabe said yesterday. ''He intends to act forcefully, should any of these allegations be confirmed.'' Annan was in Berlin.

A UN investigative team is now in West Africa, examining charges of abuse made in a report by the UN Office of High Commissioner for Refugees and the British charity Save the Children.

That report, made public Tuesday, charged there has been ''extensive sexual exploitation'' by aid workers in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. Aid workers in all three places are accused of forcing refugee children to have sex in exchange for aid.

Nearly 70 aid workers from 40 agencies demanded sex from children in relief camps in exchange for basic necessities such as food or water, the report asserted.

The abuse, the report concluded, was largely carried out by aid workers hired locally by the UN or other relief groups. But in the case of Sierra Leone, some UN peacekeepers also demanded sexual favors, the report charges.

Victims were primarily girls between the ages of 13 and 18, all of whom had gone to the camps seeking sanctuary in the face of bitter fighting in their homelands. Thousands of refugees have been displaced from the three countries in nearly 12 years of conflict.

''We are particularly outraged that some humanitarian workers have betrayed the trust of the children they are charged to assist and protect,'' Carol Bellamy, executive director of UNICEF, said in a statement yesterday.

The UN investigation will be carried out by a team that includes staff from the UN inspector general's office. Conclusions were expected next month.

The allegations in the report, compiled by outside consultants, as well as Save The Children staff, are largely anecdotal. But it concludes that the ''exchange of sex for money or gifts appears to be widespread.''

''The children, whilst aware of the exploitative nature of the exchange, felt this often was the only option they had in order to receive food and other basic necessities.''

Quoting from refugees, the report paints a picture of women and children essentially held hostage by aid workers and peacekeepers.

''They say, `A kilo for sex,''' one refugee woman in Guinea was quoted as saying.

A refugee from Liberia said: ''They [aid workers] use food as bait to get you to sex with them."

UN peacekeepers, the study said, also sexually exploited children, demanding they strip or have sex in exchange for food or cash. Rates ranged from $5 to $300, the report said.

There have been other complaints leveled against both UN peacekeepers and employees of the UN's chief relief agency, the UNHCR.

Last month, UN investigators reported that UNHCR staff had illegally collected millions from refugees who thought the payments would buy them a way to leave Africa.

Allegations of sexual abuse and involvement in child abuse last year were brought against Danish and Slovakian soldiers with the UN mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea. And allegations of sexual misconduct were also brought against Jordanian peacekeepers in East Timor.

The July & August/2002 issues of Soldier of Fortune magazine gives a fairly in-dept report of the sex slavery trade. In Aug 02 issue they deal with sex trade in Eastern European countries since the fall of the wall. The East Europeans were amazed at the topless bars, porn, prostitution deals of West Germany. The lure of wealth etc was so great that the poor young girls as young as 17 would "volunteer," of course once they get into the grasp of the slave trades it was almost impossible to escape. The women were required to serve as many as 10 clients a nite.

I knew the UN was corrupt but I didn't know it was this corrupt. I knew that sexual slavery existed, but I never kenw that it's such a serious problem. I'd always assumed that it's just a few losers kidnapping women and girls and holding them in their houses. I didn't know that whole armies of women are being trafficked throughout the world for sex. You have to wonder why there isn't wider outrage for this sort of thing.
