Come on, beekeeper, it just wouldn't be AR15.com without a heated argument about Olympic Arms, Colt vs Bushmaster, Israel, or Texas on a weekly basis. [:D]

Back in 99', I went to Gunsite for the tactical carbine class, and 2 gun magazine journalists from Germany flew over for the class, and were to test out, for an article, 16" and 20" Olympic rifles.

The 20" spent 3 of the 5 days with the gunsmith, and never got more than a few rounds of use before we gave up on it.

Once we all (about 20 of us) took turns doing dry charges to get all the excess metal off the bolt carrier and charging handle of the 16", it worked fairly well.

The scary thing is Olympic new the guys from Germany were going to do a review of their products, and didn't bother much with the QC checks on those rifles before they shipped them to Gunsite.

Since then, for some reason, I've never had much desire to purchase anything from Olympic, and don't miss them on the forum.

Do a search for Olympic on this board.  This subject has been heatedly debated several times.  Enough already.

Somebody asked me who's better, Olympia or ASA.

What should I tell them?  [;d]

Cmymud, I do have a buddy who ordered a dozen or so Thermolds from RGuns before he talked to me, and they were well-priced, shipped promptly, well packed, and brand new.  He's happy.

I think Olympic Arms got tired of doing public troubleshooting.

"Don't worry IDAHO_GREG, it's common for AR bolt carriers to have catastrophic failure from time to time.  Did I mention that Colt once thought of using us as a subcontractor for the parts that we subcontract from others?  Sure your carrier failed, but you have one of the finest barrels... and it's still attached to a piece of your upper!"

I asked a simple question once. "How can I check my barrel to see what the twist rate is?" I got two helpful answers, and a chewing out by that Olympic dude. Spithauler or whatever. "Send us $25 if you want to know about the gun you got!" (Even though my serial number falls in the burned record range....)

Didn't Olympic Arms split off from Mattel during the late 60's or early 70's?

Colt supports the site, Olympic doesn't.

How simple an explanation do you want?

ummm, not trying to piss the goat off, but how does colt support this site ?  I don't see a industry forum moderator to try and answer questions nor do I see a banner add.
Don't get me wrong, I think it would be great to have colt as a supporter of this site, its just I don't see it.

Do Olympics use 5.56 AND .223 (which is better)?
