You can buy kits to build a "bug" that runs on a 9 volt battery and broadcasts on FM. I built one of those when I was 13 and hid it in my parents bedroom so I could hear what they were saying about me when I'd get in trouble.

Check out [url=http://www.amazing1.com/security.htm]Information Unlimited[/url]. I got a book of their plans from the library when I was a kid and made some stuff, including the FM transmitter. Pretty easy.
