I'm thinking about burning a CD with a bunch of songs that would be useful for roaring down the Highway at a safe Hun cruising speed.

What are your favorite 'traveling music' songs for those long, long road trips?

Something to pump up the energy and keep you wide-azzed awake on those stretches of Interstate that seem to go on and on and on...
forever?

Let's hear some suggestions! Such as...

RADAR LOVE
by GOLDEN EARRING

I've been drivin' all night, my hand's wet on the wheel
There's a voice in my head that drives my heel
It's my baby callin', says I need you here
And it's a half past four and I'm shiftin' gear
When she is lonely and the longing gets too much
She sends a cable comin' in from above
Don't need no phone at all
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a wave in the air, Radar Love

The radio is playing some forgotten song
Brenda Lee's comin' on strong
The road has got me hypnotized

And I'm speedin' into a new sunrise
When I get lonely and I'm sure I've had enough
She sents her comfort comin' in from above
We don't need no letter at all
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a light in the sky

(Instrumental break)

No more speed, I'm almost there
Gotta keep cool now, gotta take care
Last car to pass, here I go
And the line of cars drove down real slow
And the radio played that forgotten song
Brenda Lee's comin' on strong
And the newsman sang his same song
Oh one more radar lover gone

When I get lonely and I'm sure I've had enough
She sents her comfort comin' in from above
We don't need no letter at all
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a light in the sky
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love

I've always thought the chorus to that song was pretty weak, but it is a rouser when played after Midnight!

Some of my favorite stuff to listen to when on the road is Iron Maiden - the driving beat (no pun intended) and busy music that's perfectly in time with the lyrics really makes the miles fly by. Just check your speed every so often, because you will gain 5-10mph with this stuff playing!

I gotta agree with Rush, of course. Just about any of the heavier classic rock or metal - Asia, Triumph, Blue Oyster Cult, Rainbow, Dio, any Styx up till Pieces of Eight, Uriah Heep, Queensryche - and progressive rock like Yes, old Genesis, Kansas, King Crimson, and Emerson, Lake, & Palmer work for me.

well, if we're talking golden earring, "twilight zone" is a great driving tune.

i've got this CD by a very obscure group called the "bottle rockets"  good road music.

Only 5-10 mph?[:)]
Judas Priest is also up there with good driving tunes. Gotta have some Waylon and Buddy Holly. Don't go just with the beat, but songs that make you feel good hearing them.

This song by Offspring used to get me into a lot of trouble when I was driving the sports car.... [:D]

Bad Habit

Hey man you know I'm really okay
The gun in my hand will tell you the same
But when I'm in my car
Don't give me no crap
Cause the slightest thing and I just might snap
When I go driving I stay in my lane
But getting cut off makes me insane
I open the glove box
Reach inside
I'm gonna wreck this fucker's ride
I guess I got a bad habit
And it ain't goin' away Yeah
Well they say the road's a dangerous place
If you flip me off I'm the danger you'll face
You drive on my ass
You're foot's on the gas
And your next breath is your last
Drivers are rude
Such attitudes
But when I show my piece
Complaints cease
Something's odd
I feel like I'm God
You stupid dumbshit goddam motherfucker
I open the glove box
Reach inside
I'm gonna wreck this fucker's ride

"Scuttlebuttin'" by Stevie Ray Vaughn is a great tune to set the pace of any road trip.

"Lay It Down" by RATT is good for later in the trip when your speed drops to near the speed limit.

"Fat Bottomed Girls" by Queen, crank it up if you happen to pass a girls' track team doing road work.  [:D]

Van Halen tunes (old) are a must.

Orange Blossom Special by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs.

Not sure of the name but "I'm just a singer in a rock and roll band" Moody Blues

I'll second "Sympathy for the Devil" also "you can't always get what you want" and you know the rest.

Mr. Hun,
On my way to Orlando this May..I picked up 2 humorous cd's. Roy D. Mercer's crank phone cals...and Tom Mabe's crank phone calls. The first 3 hours of thr trip disappeared with smiles and uncontrollable laughter. The next trip...I will do the same thing.

Time flies when you're laughing your arse off!

Surf music. There's some very good modern surf out there--Los Straitjackets, the Mermen, and the Blue Stingrays (who are Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers minus Tom Petty). Or you can be retro and do the Beach Boys.

It's a matter of taste, but electronica works well for me. Oakenfold. Get into the zone and just drive with some 15-minute jam, mixed into the next 15-minute jam.

Uncle Tupelo for modern, non-pop alt-country.

Whatever you burn on the CD, make sure these are on there:

Tom Petty's 'Runnin Down a Dream'

Rush's 'Red Barchetta'

Pink Floyd's 'Run Like Hell'

Edited to add;  If you're progressive enough, give Social Distortion a try.  Pick up their "Live at the Roxy" CD.  If you don't like it, I'll buy it from you. [:)]

All the R&R stuff has been mentioned. How about some good Swing? A little Louis Jordan, some Duke Ellington, a touch of Count Basie ?
