See these movies irritate me, Aside from the fact that it takes 3 movies for them to get to the point where someone kicks a dinosaur (And the whole Marines getting whooped by Raptors scene... oooh that burns me) My question is simply, ignoring the movies assertion of the nigh-invincible nature of the Big Cold Blooded Critters. What type of firepower do you think would be required to drop one :) I'm thinking an AR would work on the Raptors (I'd personally use slugs) but 5.56 might be useless against something with 8 inches of skin :) Might have to whip out the .30-06.

I think that would finally let me justify buying a .50! [:D]

I musta missed that movie. I don't recall any scene with Marines going up against raptors. The only involvement of Marines was when they came in to rescue Alan Grant and co. at the end of the third movie and they never went up against any dinosaurs.

I don't remember that. Which one was it in? I have all 3 on DVD. I think the AR would work well on the Raptors and anything smaller, but against the T-Rex and other similar lizards, give me a recoilless rifle.

That one guy (the one from Miami Vice) had a .50 in III and it didn't seem to slow them down one bit. I think I'd opt for some real firepower, like a minigun.

M1 Abrams tank, with .50 cal machine gun. Main turret cannon for big dinosaurs, .50 cal for little dinosaurs.

Skip the Barret .50BMG, I want a BMG in .50 BMG! Other than that,I want all the LAWs I can carry. Perhaps this would be an apropos use for a simple RPG and lots of rockets like the skinnys use. If it had to be smaller than .50- lets go with a mini-gun. I bet that would do the trick- spray around the eyes and then the underbelly.

M1A in a group of 3 or 4. Or a 2 Bradlys w/ the 25mm cannon in addition to the M1A's. Edit Hey, this thread has been around before..... been asked a while back.

this would justify me getting a Hughes 500 helicopter with miniguns attached to it!!! [:D]

40mm Multi Grenade Launcher Loading the weapon is very easy and quick: http://www.milkor.co.za/videos/milkor04.mpg 40mm Hollow Charge Round
This is a dual purpose round which provides an anti-personnel, anti-armour and anti-fortification capability under all terrain conditions for any type of operation. The round can be fired from all known 40mm grenade launchers and provides the ultimate in firepower for the individual infantryman.

This will take out any T-rex or larger beast. As for raptors, since they arent think skinned like us apes: G3A4 Since I would be using all these kinds of weapons I would carry Ricin laced bullets and AP bullets to do away quickly with the rest.

M1A1 Abrams MBT Yep, 120mm HEAT rounds would decimate the dino armor. Sabot rounds if your just looking to punch holes in them. Be kinda fun to drive around in an armored vehicle just knowing they cant touch you, yet you can blast their asses off..

I have a vague recollection of a bunch of guys in Camo getting slaughtered in the tall grass by the Raptors superior tactics. I remembered it as marines but I really didnt bother to remember that movie. Now as far as everything goes, I would think that a Raptor would require at least 12-16 inches of penetration to effectively kill. Small arms can provide that, m855 should be able to deliver that out of an AR. Now I look at a T-rex and think "36 inches, at least" to hit any organs, and thier skin has to be at least 2 or 3 times as resilient as ours.. so we're talking Slugs or heavy game cartridges. BTW Tin Foil man just proved he's smarter then us all with that Poisoned carcass Idea... but lets keep the discussion on Guns-oriented solutions. Now my gquestion, do they even make Slugs for 8 gauge shotguns? Whats the penetration numbers on those?

Dinosaurs? They look like this now... How about a flamethrower? That's what I'd use if those freakin' things were still alive.

AH-64 Longbow Apache M1A2 Abrams MBT with no Engine Govenor and a COax 50 on top of the turret.. If I was on foot M60 or M249 Mk19 Gernade Launcher CLaymores Satchels and an Defensive position.. Oh yeah and an A-10 with Napalm on about 10/12 of its pylons. Now that I think of it Hunting Predatorial Dinosaurs would pretty much be the ultimate hunting experience... It would probably make a good half-life mod. For the counterstrike series.. CounterStrike : Jurassic Assault.

Jurassic Park Two? It was a group of mercenaries working for InTech... Scott

That's what I've always despised about the Jurassic movies, there's always some scenes showing how well armed the humans are yet for some reason they either never seem to get off a shot or you hear a couple rounds fired off camera and then everyone tosses their weapon and runs screaming like a little girl. It's obvious for whatever reason that the director or whoever wants guns to look totally ineffective against dinosaurs. It wouldn't be so bad if you could see at least a little success now an then. Woulda been nice to see one dino get hit with that 20mm.

In "A gun for Dinosaur" (L. Sprague DeCamp), the guide strongly recommends that the hunter be able to shoulder and fire a .600 Nitro Express twice. There's also a blurb about using 50cal machine guns to take down a Brontosaurus. That seemed reasonable until the T-rex and other carnivores got wind of the dead beast before the remains could be transported back.

My 460 Weatherby Mag and M1a if I had to take only what I currently own. If I can choose anything, the Abrams or Apache seems like a good choice

why not just use nerve gas?

For T-Rex sized nasties I'd rather have something big & belt fed, aka Ma Deuce (esp a quad .50 mount in the back of a halftrack or 2.5ton truck). Maybe even a Oerlerkon (sp?) 20mm cannon, belt fed 40mm grenade launcher or 106mm recoilless. Huge, quick moving critters that will eat you for lunch=kill it right frigg'n now. If on foot I'd go for a .50 cal rifle or maybe a 20mm Lahti or 57mm recoilless. A 'zippo' would work well also but flamethrowers have short range & have a rather attention getting muzzle flash....[;D] As far as 'raptors.. Something .308 or so should work but semi or full auto with plenty of ammo. M14,AR10,FNFAL,G3 if semi & full auto...Bren,BAR,FNmag,M60 or even a MG42 or Lewis. You probably could drop a raptor with less but they're a bit too damn smart, fast & aggressive to screw around with. A M79/M203 40mm might come in handy, with plenty of HE & WP.
