What is 209 ignition and how does it work? I saw in Cabela's a few of them and they look real interesting. Any of you shoot with these?

Shotgun primers.

I've got a Knight that takes both the regular primers and shotgun-you screw out the part of the rifle that the primer goes on. They are kind of fun. Makes a different noise and has a different feel, the smoke cloud is kind of neat. I shoot pyrodex-my gun takes 2 pellets that you drop down the barrel-then you shove a bullet down-the ones I have are 44 mag bullets in a plastic sabot. The range is kind of limited, sort of like a non saboted slug. They seem pretty accurate within their range.

I haven't gotten a deer with mine yet [:(] but my buddy has gotten several and says that the guns are effective at taking the deer cleanly.

I haven't used the shotgun primers in my gun because I still have so many of the regular kind.

Edited to add-Yup mine is an inline, if you just want it to be able to hunt with during muzzle loading season these are the ones to get-(they are more reliable and easier to clean up and use) v. wanting a flintlock or other more traditional looking model, which if you have the time might be more fun.

It is fun to go with guys who have the "real' blackpowder guns-they make a funny loud farting noise when they fail to ignite

OK so my next question is... what is a "3 way ignition?"
