Name Of Gay Bar Should Have Been Clearer CHICAGO—After accidentally walking into a gay bar Monday, Jeff Pierce, 23, said the name of the establishment failed to clearly telegraph its orientation. "I can see how Rods sounds gay," Pierce said, "but it's just not as crystal-clear as it could be." Pierce urged the bar's owner to consider changing the name, suggesting The Manhole or Big Throbbing Homo Cocks.

or "The Blue Oyster" c/o Police academy. We've got one in the area called "The Menagerie" and I always thought that "The Toolbox" would make a good name.

I've got a good friend named Jeff Pierce[not the same one]. Do you have a link to the story so I can tease him with this?

I went to school in Atlanta, and there was a gay bar/club there called "Swinging Richards." Those of you from Atlanta might remember it. It was at Northside Dr. and I-75.

I guess I'm not sure if bunghole's post is considered to be plagarism of a violation of copyright law. Maybe the lawyers will know.

I knew someone who worked as a security guard there temporarly. Anyway, there is one in Los Angeles (on Pico, just east of Crenshaw) called the "Catch One". Boy, when we hear about that! My mom said "catch one what, AIDS or Herpes" I was LMFAO. I think a name change would do them some good! Ironically, our friend who worked security found out some things about people he knew when they arrived at the bar/club.

As a public service gay bars should either have a crystal clear name or just post a sign on the door indicating a lack of multi-gender marketing. To that end I suggest a few names... "THE BACK DOOR" "BRAUTS AND BEER, AN ALCOHOLIC SAUSAGE FESTIVAL" "BOTTOMS UP!"

Near where I went to school, there was a gay bar called "The Oar House." The sign out front said "Cocktails" and "Parking in Rear." DrMark

Well they weren't exactly discrete about it. They had the fag flag flying prominently outside.

I was in the Hillcrest area of San Diego working on a toll switch there for Pacific Bell in 1998. The job was on third shift (11PM to 7AM) so our lunch break was at 2AM. There were two bars along the route from the switchroom to the convenience store on the corner: The Brass Rail and The White Swallow. My crew and I were walking up the sidewalk at 2AM one morning/night when there was a six foot tall black transvestite/transsexual/transsomething walking down the sidewalk across the street. It had on a short sequined dress and high, high heels, with a Tina Turner wig and a feather boa. A police car drove up the street, and as he drove past, the cop stared us down, and ignored the tranny. That was kind of an eye opener. Five guys in khakis and polo shirts were out of place, and a six foot tall black crossdresser was right as rain.
