The German parliament is expected to
enact tough new guns laws by the end of the month that includes raising
the legal age for firearm possession from 18 to 21. According to German
press reports, individuals under age 25 will have to provide medical proof
of their mental stability when applying for a gun license. Also,
pump-action shotguns, described by the Interior Ministry as "classic
underworld weapons" unsuited "to sport or hunting" will be banned. The
proposed new laws are in response to a teenager's fatally shooting 16
people and himself at his former high school in April. The 19-year-old
shooter reportedly held licenses for the pump shotgun and the pistol used
in the shootings.

Sure stopped him from killig with them didn't they. Licenses. F-n krauts need to re-grow some nads, and this time use them for freedom instead of socialism.

SIG isn't German.  The Sauer part is German, which may not have anything to do with the gun you like.

IIRC the Germans got involved because of the import [EDIT -- actually export IIRC] restriction on Swiss firearms.  Now SIGARMS is producing the firearms in the states.

Just pulled mine out of the safe and the slide is marked SIG SAUER, SIGARMS INC EXETER - NH and P226 MADE IN GERMANY.

Great guns.  If I wasn't as emotionally attached to 1911's, I'd have nothing to do with a pistol other than the SIG.  They are incredible.

Wow, I didn't know you could lawfully own weapons in Germany, what happened to the German Weapons Control Act of 1936 ? Oh, did war make that go away ? Well then, now that we're at war shouldn't the Crime Bill go away as well as others ?

Nope, the German "WaffG" of 1938 was almost verbatim in effect until 1972 or '74. Then it was tightened...
Anyway, this GCA '38 didn't outlaw private gunownership at all, [i]au contraire[/i], it merely forbade "unreliable, subversive subjects", ie. jews, commies, unionists, democrats etc to own weapons. For the majority of the German population, gun ownership and marksmanship have been encouraged and promoted.

Girlfriend murdered by shotgun.

Helga Crutchfield was murdered Monday night by her boyfriend Klaus von Buttmunch in a fit of jealous rage. Friends report that von Buttmunch was depressed over Crutchfield's breaking up with him and had recently been drinking heavily, taking drugs and engaging in 24 hour playing marathons of the violent computer game "Doom" online with friends.

In response to the killing, the German parliament has called an emergency session for Tuesday. Parliament member Siegfied und Roy said that it is time to eradicate side-by-side shot guns and computers. "There is no place for shotguns and Doom in a peaceful society." und Roy was quoted as saying at a recent animal rights rally hosted by french animal activist and former actress, Brigitte Bardot.

Meanwhile, the family of Crutchfield has filed lawsuits against the makers of "Doom", Compac, and the makers of the shotgun. When it was pointed out that the gun was 50 years old, Crutchfield's father, Schpeker replied, "being out of business is no excuse and won't bring back our daughter. The money is still there in the hands of the descendants. They hold responsibility for the hundreds of guns that are still around and murdering innocents."
