Ok, after a quick chat with ETH, it appears there is water 300 yards from his cabin. ETH is going to check on getting the water turned on before the FUN/SUN/GUN/HUN. It is City water, and we should not need a pump. Scavenger time fellas. We will make things much nicer for ourselves if we get that water all the way to the cabin. Might be time to scratch our collective heads and figure out what supplies/talents/ideas we each have that we can use to move that water up the hill. I know a quick (short term) solution is tapping into the existing water outlet and using drinking water safe hoses to move the water. I have used this technique at my home to move water over 100 yards, uphill, and it worked very well. The other (and better) option is to run flexible PVC up the hill. This option allows ETH to bury the lines before winter and makes for a permanent solution. TheRedGoat

I'm glad I checked in here before I drove out to Rockwall! The only power that's out there is a 5000 volt generator. We will likely be able to run a couple of fans, and some lights with that. The water is close, though. It can be done! Eric The(GottaGo!)Hun[>]:)]

Electrical will require setting poles or, preferrably, putting power conduit in the ground. Tapping a meter off an appropriate transformer may be problematic if there's not a feeder line nearby.

We had the electric company set poles and a meter with a nitelight before, but there was a $25.00 monthly minimum charge. Just depends on how much ETH wants to use it to make it worthwhile. fullclip

Eric, don't you mean 5000 WATT? That is fairly good power. It won't run an air conditioner, but it will run several fans along with some lights. Most fans only pull about 75 watts...fullclip

Ok, IMHO... The water is simple. Have the city activate the meter, and we tap into the end of the line. There is probably already a connector in place. If not, it is a quick hop into town for parts. The line itself should be PVC if and I mean IF it is to be a permanent line. This means it must be buried soon after being glued or a dumb cow is going to crush it one day. Installing and burying lines, while it sounds noble, is a heck of alot of work. No matter how motivated we are while sitting in A/C in front of a keyboard, it is going to be terribly hot, dusty and exhausting. 300 yards of dry Texas sod is not going to be a simple chore. It will take all day+ to do this by hand. A quicker approach is the water hose relay. Roll the hoses up when we are done, and ETH can trot them out each time he goes to the cabin. Or, leave the lines in place, in the shade if possible to avoid UV damage. Turn the water off in the fall and let gravity drain the line. Plans can then be made prior to the Fall HUNFUNSUNGUN to rent a ditching machine and bury a permanent line. Since there is NO power on the place, we don't have to worry about it. We run the margarita blenders from a generator... BTW, I have at least one drinking water safe line I can bring as a donation. 300 yards means alot of hoses. I doubt there is a store in town that stocks 300yards of hoses. We need nine 100 foot hoses. I think I have a 100 foot hose (it might be 50) that I will gladly donate. TheRedGoat

Spoken like a man who has not yet tasted the delights concocted by a hand-portable (2 pound) gasoline-powered blender. Think of a weedeater powered frozen margarita machine. Ahhh.... *edited cause the Makers Mark got in the way again. *edited again cause the thought of partying in a hotel room with Asleep At The Wheel was where I first saw a gasoline powered blender.

I am certain you are correct. However, I think the logistics point toward the water hose relay. Long term (more time to rent, haul, prepare, install) we will look into the ditch witch option. Arockisdrunkintyping. Gotta Love it... TheRedGoat

I'm in for a hose or two. Are these just regular garen type hoses or do we need something more? I will try to come up with a list of extraneous stuff we may need and post it tomorrow. Then we can each see what is needed and divvie it up. Please add items to the list as you see fit.

They must be marked as SAFE FOR DRINKING WATER. If you don't KNOW they are water safe, then don't bring it. Summer sun degrades the material in the hose and it can make people ill. I am not sure of the connections already in place at the farm. I would be willing to bet there is already one place to connect a water hose. I have some extra water hose gaskets that I will bring. No lights. Light attracts bugs. I HATE BUGS!!! Water?!?! BYOW Bring your own water. And we don't need no stinkin showers. Its only 3 days. You get used to ones smelly arm pit. Of course once we get back to civilization, that might be another story.

[toungeincheeck] After the shoot at the farm, we could donate the drinking hoses to the National Guard that has no money for equipment. [/toungeincheeck] [rolleyes]

WalMart has some good inexpensive ones. 50FT is the longest I have seen. I too will donate one for the cause.

Good thought. Comes in just about any legnth,no chemicals to assemble, just use hose clamps and KC nipples, and best part just roll it up to store it when finished.. Thanks 1GUNRUNNER ..fullclip

This is actually a great idea. We used to do the same thing growing up when we needed to water hard to reach places. Only problem is the water gets pretty warm from sitting in direct sunlight in the black poly. Just let the water run a few minutes to cool off. The Frisco Kid (per ETH)

Hmmm, why have I so suddenly lost my appetite? Maybe it could be marketed as 'BungDung' or as 'Bunghole Chips' or 'Bunghole Patties'? I think we'd better stick with propane or mesquite wood. Eric The(IfYouDon'tMind)Hun[>]:)]

I vote we set up a mini-nuke reactor on his property...it would definately be a nice selling point for his property in the future.[:D]

There should be enough fresh bull shit available to power a small town if needed...especially if the locals frown on a portable nuclear reactor..[:D]
