That big ol' ugly guy in the back is responsible for the safety and protection of everyone else in that picture 24/7 and, sadly, there are some circumstances in life where that might require the immediate availability of a firearm regardless of where we might be. (The missus carries daily as well, but that's beside the point here.)

Or, IOW, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

(Stated above at least once, but it bears repeating IMHO.)

That is my core reason.

Got stopped on the way back from CO last fall. Showed TX trooper my CCW permit. So did my dad in the passenger seat (He had it out before I could stop him).

He thanked us for being open about CCW, congratulated us on the elk, and sent us on our way with just a warning.

No 3 day wait on handguns (you still have to have the call in here in FL) and it downgrades your charge from a felony if you carry where you aren't supposed to. That of course in addition to the ability to protect yourself and others from evil.

Quality of life.  Knowing you have the ability to protect yourself and those you care about.  It takes a little bit of the fear and uncertainty out of life.  Even if you never have to use your firearm to stop an attack - your life has been that much more enjoyable because of that confidence, peace of mind, and dependence on yourself for your well being.

Biggest reason to have one is to not get in trouble for carrying.

Also, in GA it takes place of an FBI check. I can walk in a store, buy a gun and be out in under 5 min.  Great for impulse buys - bad for my checking account.
