I'm going to buy it at Circuit City on it's release date.  If/When a special edition comes out, I'll just lend the "old" version to someone and never get it back.

Me. This will be the first DVD or Movie for that matter, that I buy in my entire life.

Best Buy was offering a 10.00 coupon good for any online purchase if you preordered, not sure if that expired or not, you may want to check.

I'm pretty sure the coupon expired 6/7   Btw, I HATE when they release a "better" version in a month or two.  Bastards.

I don't know. According to the ads on the boob tube, there's supposed to be some additional items on here including interviews. I pre-ordered my copy a month or so ago from Amazon and received an email on Saturday indicating it's on its way.

I pre-ordered my copy a long time ago.

It sucks it is bare bones.  I could live without the behind the scenes stuff, but the first release isnt even going to have a DTS track.

But I've heard the DD track kicks ass so it probably wont matter.

I will buy both... probably both copies of LOTR as well.

Would some care to explain these terms to some of us more backwards folk? I just finally broke down and bought one of these contraptions (and "Heat", of course).

What do you think this dvd will costs and is it worth waiting until (Sept??) when the version with more stuff on it comes out?
View Quote

DTS and Dolby Digital are two surround sound formats.  There is also DTS 6.1 and Dolby Digital ES and EX that add additional channels of surround.  Common wisdom is that DTS sounds better than Dolby Digital, though frankly they each do some things better than the other and for most people the differences are minor.

I'll probably get the movie tomorrow and see if it is worth getting the special edition when it comes out.  I'll definitely be getting both versions of LOTR.

Damn, this DVD buying gets addictive, I probably haven't watched a third of the ones I own.

Already have mine.  Damn, sixty movies already.  I hate that it totals all I've spent as well. [:P]  My wife actually looked in the cabinet for the first time last weekend and asked (yelled), "Where did all those movies come from!" [:D]

Most probably. What they are doing is releasing a bare bones DVD now, with a "full feature" DVD in a few months. So probably rushed out the lame DVD to match the VHS release date....

It should be called Blackburn Down and would explan the whole senerio of the semi failed misson,  As it all went south after that ranger missed his rope.  Nothing said to take away from the heroic effort and deeds of these brave men and what they went through.  And If it were my son ,I would have wanted them to do just the same.

Nobody was left behind, as it should be.  I'm really pissed at Clinton for not getting our guy back ,and leveling the place into a sand-trap

Bought mine while out at lunch today.  It has been sitting here on my desk just begging to be watched ever since.  (do you think my boss would mind if I watched on my computer?)

I was pleasantly surprised to find it on sale for $15.99!  I fully expected to pay the 'new DVD' price of 21.99 for it.  Guess its just my day.[:D]

Oh yes...18 Americans died because of Pvt. Blackburn. Come over to BHD93.com and say that to his fellow Rangers, might not go over very well.

Who knows what could have happened even with him NOT missing the rope, give up the armchair quarterbacking and focus on their heroic actions.

Semifailed....right... they completed their objectives by capturing what they were after and with higher than expected losses completed their mission.

PS. 223spree, might want to change the topic from BlackHack Down to Black Hawk Down.

I just watched it for the first time and it was great.  If only "Pearl Harbor" could have followed this movie making theme.  BHD was pretty hard to watch because the mission was so f****d up.  I actually can't believe that we got as many out as we did.  What a fustercluck.  I watched it once and I need to watch it again to really nail down the characters, but I don't know if I can handle it again.  Thanks to all service personnel who read this post!

Got my copy last night.   Awesome movie.  Probably the best "modern" war movie so far (although there aren't many).

Ridley Scott is a great director, and this is one of his best.  I'll probably watch it again tonight.  With the early 90's soundtrack and modern equipment, I guess I can relate to it better than a Vietnam flick.

Plus, I love the miniguns.

This release has a featurette about making the movie, bios for the actors and film crew, and trailers for "Spiderman" and "The One". ("The One came out LAST NOVEMBER, IIRC!!!

The special edition should have more features. Deleted scenes, and such....
