Okay, i am getting ready to get a camcorder.  A sony MiniDV camcorder.  I want to be able to download footage that i have taken from my camcorder to my computer.  Edit it or do what ever and then make a dvd of the footage.  Here's the question:

I dont think my dvd player will play cd-r's.  So, if i had a dvd burner, what format would i burn the footage with.  In other words, would the footage that i have taken be in mpeg format?  Will dvd players read mpegs?  AVI's? or what?

ANY info would be helpful ......thanks

But the bigger problem is that there is no standard (well, actually, there are three competing standards) for DVD-Rs.  Currently, only some models of the same brand of DVD players will read DVD-Rs.

Thanks for the information.  It has cleared things up just a bit.  I am getting ready to check out that link blade.  This whole dvd thing is crazy as hell.
