As an always gun, I carry a 32 Seecamp, and am on a list for the 380. Otherwise I feel well heeled with a 40 S&W, 45ACP, 357 Mag. Own a 9mm, but don't seem to carry it. It sometimes boils down to the gun you have with you. I can hit a 3 inch target always with the seecamp at 7 yards.

A .38 snubby. This caliber gun has put many a men in the ground.

I would consider down to a .380. I carry in .45acp.

To my mind, if your life is in danger, you may only get one hit, so it better be a good one. I wouldn't carry less than a .38+p.
