I am just now starting to learn Spanish. I have learned a little French in high school years ago. I would like to become fluent in Spanish and Arabic at least.

I would not consider myself bilingual. I know just about enough Spanish to make the Illegal Mexicans I deal with sometimes mad..hehe [:)]

I'm not, but my wife is. She's Okinawan, but been here since she was nine. She speaks Japanese/Okinawan, but is essentially illiterate in it.

I can only speak English but coming from Detroit area I can understand some ebonics. I can't speak it fluently but can understand directions and maybe I am going to be carjacked.

Yes. Speak a bit of Japanese, mostly learned in martial arts classes. It's surprising how much of the language you can pick up from these. Also a smattering of Vietnamese that I have learned on my own as well as from military books and movies. Wish I knew more though. A foreign language is learned best as a young child just because it isn't so strange at that point. If interested in your child learning a foreign language......have them taught in it at a very young age. The results might surprise you.

Unfortuantely, I have lapsed horribly in most of the languages I know...
Russian Arabic Farsi Greek Italian German I do speak "variations" of English... British English "Technish" Armed Forces English "Wrench" "Net-Tech" Gunner BatCo Most of the variations concern word usage and shortening of language under duress... Pity I don't travel much anymore, it would be nice to pick up some of the languages again... FFZ |
