WHAT??????????? [>:/]
You want to silence a 12guage AR??? [>:/] Sgtar15 |

You know, in Vietnam the SEALs used special silenced shotgun ammo.

Believe your mom would be happier if you had one of these:

Well, the ar15 is .223 caliber.
I would be willing to bet that silencers (aka suppressors) are illegal in NY -- at a minimum you have to get a special ATF license and pay a multi-hundred dollar fee to own one. I've never heard of a silencer for a shotgun but apparently DonS has. - CD |

View Quote Michaelm, be aware that you are bran new to this board, and you are asking an illegal question (silencer, legal in new york, etc). You will be recognized as a troll [:K]asking such questions. It souds like your trying to bait people into giving you illegal advise. |

Michael,
Please post again when sober, or when your meds kick in. Best! [:D] |

I've heard that you can put your hand over the end of the shotgun barrel and this will have a silencing effect. However, this will only work twice.............

Well I would suggest, from my vast experience and knowledge of AR15/M16 fire control systems that you look specifically for the .50BMG with the 10.5" barrel, threaded to accept the "can" you would need atleast a 14" can to silence. which would give you a 24.5" total barrel length.
Be sure to get a 4X24-50AO Mil-Dot scope with the short eye relief to mount, you want to get maximum site picture. You cannot get the 30 round clips for this gun in NY but I am sur if you look hard enough you can find the 20 round clips. luck, dave |

Go to a local gun store and buy a shotgun. Use the in the ear plugs, and muffs and it will suppress the noise.

How about a nice, shiny Bryco in .25? Gotta hold her sideways when shooting, of course, to make the right impression on da bro's...

Buy a good old pistol grip Winchester Defender 1300 short barrel shot gun. Not everyone who is a newbie and asks questions that are "unusual" are trolls.[:)] michaelm, Silencers are illegal in NYS.Maybe you mean something else. Most AR15's are 5.56mm (.223caliber) but you will see conversions to other calibers(.9mm) Shogun calibers are different than rifle calibers. The most common Shotgun calibers(gages)found in shotguns produced now (from larger to smaller diameters) are 12,16,20 and .410 . There are other gages, but you don't see too many of them now(10,28,etc) Now,that wasn't that hard, was it?[:D] .......if Tate wants to know if AR15 is a good brand and if he can get it for $200...that would be a different story![;)] |

Cool! I want a .9mm AR! That's got to be one fierce bottlenecking job... |

Michael: You might want to clean up your question and put it in the General Firearm Forum.

If the silencing part is important, just get any .22lr rifle with a barrel > 24" and shoot CBs. That's as good as you can get in NY i think.

Why isn't there an ar15 upper in 12 gauge. Anybody ever seen one. Sounds like an idea who's time has come. I have dibs on the patent.
Question, Is it legal to construct one using common houshold objects, ie, water pipe? remember, I'm talking upper only, with no silencer. Even I know thats illegal as hell |

C'mon guys give the new guy a break.
Don't bother with expensive and government tracked silencers. I get the feeling you are in the home workshop/disposable market. Generally a dixie cup placed over the barrel will disappate a 12ga discharge to under 32db. But I personally don't like this method as it blocks the sights. But the one that is really sweet is the old NAVY SEAL plug of dirt suppression method. Basically you just jam the barrel into the dirt (mud is best) and get a nice clump. This always the sound signature to dissapate before clearing the round out of the barrel. Works like a charm. But you will need a dirt plug thicker than 1" to get complete sound suppression. Don't get caught and don't bring any potential witnesses who can turn on you later. |
