From a classic Dilbert strip: Boss: I found out that you men spend 75% of your time thinking about attractive women. Do you know how much time you are wasting? Wally: 25%?

We had a guy like that at one place I used to work. He was in a four-seat cubicle with three women, and they noticed that over a period of weeks, all he was doing was surfing porn sites. One night I hear him on the phone, talking in a panicked voice to someone on the other end, telling him "they can fire me!" He'd gotten nailed, and was given the choice of resigning quietly or being fired. He chose to resign, and everyone was told that he had gone to pursue his dream of mountain climbing. The truth finally began spreading around a few months later, though. [:)]

Yep, Its not a good thing, sorry for your job loss and the undue stress your family will have to endure. But it is a job and should be treated as such, remember on the clock they need your productivity, at home its your time if you feel compelled then surf, but I would bet the wife wouldn't want you to at home. Again sorry but you should have expected it.

I am not a computer whiz, but I do know enough about them to know that ANYTHING you do on one can be traced, tracked, recovered, un-deleted, packet sniffed, hacked, recorded, or spied upon without your knowledge, or consent at your place of employment. Searching your desk is perfectly fine and I can assure you that searching your computer is much easier and can be done without your knowledge especially if you are on a network of any kind. You can run "easy cleaner" and all of the other software on your system and you are still not safe so don't fool yourself. Work at work and Play at home.
