On top of that, how many here are divorced with kids?
Link Posted: 5/1/2002 1:41:38 PM EDT
I think this is why I waited so long to get married. My parents are divorced.

My folks are still together after 35 years, even though I think they would be happier divorced. My wife and I are still together after 12 years of marriage and couldn't be happier.

Parents divorced in 1977, father died in 1980. Once divorce no kids, one divorce on-the-way with a daughter.

My wife's parents are still married after 32 years. My parents were "married" for 11 years, when my father died right after I turned 14. I use "married" because there was never a ceremony. My mother wore a ring and my father asked her, but she never wanted a ceremony. You will notice that I saw I was 14 and they were married for 11. That is because my father was a total jerk and shirked on his fatherly duties until I was about 3 years old. Some of my oldest memories are him not coming to see me because he had better things to do, and it had a massive impact on me as a father. I've been married for almost five years now, and my wife and I dated for a year before I proposed, so I knew what I was getting into. It was important for me to get married and be a great father to my children. I made a promise to God and my wife that I would be by her side in good times and bad until the day one of us died and I would foresake all others except our children. And I made a promise to myself that I would always put my children before my own needs. In my mind, that's exactly what being a man, husband, and father is all about. God Bless Texas

My mom and dad met on a setup blind date and have been married for 54 years last january. It takes dedication and perseverance to accomplish something like that. I hope I can do the same.

Still married to each other after 48 years and still energetic and working part time in their seventies. I on the other hand waited till I was 30 to get married and luckily am still happily married after 15 years.

My folks have been together for 23 long years, although the last few have been rocky. Myself, never been married and no kids yet thankfully. Most of my friends folks are divorced and remarried, I guess I am one of the lucky few whose folks are still together. Kevin.

Parents divorced at 14, after my mother had endured 19 years of physical abuse at the hands of my Dad. I was glad when they divorced; at least they'd stop being so miserable. There were some rocky times for around 5 years after the divorce but things are cool now.

My parents have been married for 60 years (my Dad shipped out to Europe for WWII in the middle of his honeymoon). My sister has been married for 30 years. My brother is married to his 3rd wife (his 2nd wife has custody of their 2 kids). I'm divorced with sole custody of my daughter. No patterns in my family [;)]

I'm a product of a two-parent home...both, however, have passed on. This month I'll be celebrating 28 years with my one and only wife...two boys, 21 & 16.

My Mom & Dad have been married 40 years next month. FORTY years!............. When I look at them [and sure...they had some rough times]..the Carter years and farming.....raising 2 kids.....Mom never worked [by their choice].....anyhow, when I look at them I can't help but be in awe of what they have accomplished. They are now in their late 50's, looking for retirement.....and looking forward to a week on Maui for their anniversary. I know they only made it because of a few basic concepts: Love of eachother and respect for the committment they made to one another and most importantly the vows they made before God. Here I am 2 marriages later [15 years total time] and still looking for that someone who has what it takes to keep the same perspective on life and love that my parents have always exhibited. Not sure they are even out there [but this new gal I am seeing has promise.....lots of promise] We'll see..............

My parents were divorced when I was 6 months old. Both remarried, and have remained so more than 30 years.

My Mom & Dad met when they were both in the Army in WWII. They got married once they got back to the US. Still married, still kickin'. Dad will be 90 this July & Mom 82 in September. Wife's parents a little younger, but still married. Out of eight kids between the family, only one divorce & one never married.

My parents have been married for like 32 or 33 years, however the last year or so has been very bad. I don't know if its because all of the kids are out of the house, the youngest of 4 a sophomore in college. My mom has been saying some pretty cruel stuff to my dad, like, "I married to get out of the house", "You were never around", "I never loved you but stayed because we had kids", etc. They tried counseling, but it didn't seem to get anywhere because my mom is set on getting a divorce. They pretty much just do their own thing nowadays. I keep telling my dad not to put up with it anymore...why be miserable any longer. As for me, it'll be 6 years in August with 2 wonderful kids.

The WW2 Top Kick passed on last Nov. The older generation in America ,for the most part, stayed together.Something changed in America...

I was reading another thread that made me start this one. Only thing is I cant remember which one it was. Anywho, my parents are still together after about 25 years. Theyve been great role models for many things, including life in general.
