Are any of you rockers going? I already have my ticket. Bought online fifth row. I've seen Van Halen with both David then Sammy. Should be a kick ass concert.

The Sans Halen Tour 2002!

One of the best concerts I ever went to was DLR.  I think it was his Skyscraper tour.  After his guitarist left(Steve Via it think it was??) His music went down hard.  I really haven't even bothered to keep up with him anymore since.
I would still say that it was probably #2 on my list of all time faves.

#1 was Ted Nuggent.  Couldn't hear for 3 days after that one.

I saw VH on the 5150 tour with Sammy, they still rocked then, but nothing like on their first album.  The guitar sound had changed and gotten wimpier and they had more keys and keyboard-oriented songs.  Wimpier, to attract more female record buyers, methinks.

Dave blasted off well with "Yankee Rose" and the "Eat 'Em and Smile" album" (Steve Vai being one of the few worthy followups to Ed) but started sucking shortly thereafter.

I'd still go see the show for ol' times sake if the tix aren't too pricey.  Which they will be.

No, I don't.

Van Halen ceased to exist after DLR left. If it hadn't been for Dave, VH would have been just another trick rock act with a gee-whiz guitarist as a front. As it is, Eddie's been playing the same fucking solo for 20 years now. In fact, who can name for me the notable difference in his guitar work on Michael "I like boys" Jackson's tune "Beat It", and anything he's done since? Ya can't, can ya!!

I don't either; I'm an old rock and roller who's bitter that Metal's best days are past. Van Hagar tapped into marketability at the expense of making worthwhile music in order to sell records, as you pointed out. The crap that's digitally imprinted on a CD with a VH logo on it is tripe. I miss the buzz that surrounded a tour by Van Halen, the next recording, and the overall edginess that used to give me a charge. The stuff on the radio today is just formulaic regurgitations of once successful and innovative artistry, with the sole intent of distributing a marketable theme, fronted by a carefully designed image. I miss real rock...

Sammy did, and does suck. Sings like a chick. Dave is all Rock.

Any doubts that VH was better in their early albums with DLR?

Listen to Diver Down and then 5150.  Diver Down is a much more diverse and better album.

Amen. 5150 is soft. You wonder why Sammy got the boot?
