Coleman's Peak 1 group used to sell a thermoplastic pack frame that could pretty much attach to any type of external packbag. Yes I saw one with an Alice pack attached. Better hipbelt and shoulder straps are a nice imrpovement as well. With a few sewing tricks you should be able to adapt an Alice pack to ANY external pack frame though. It may take some work, but it can be done. You can also retrofit your Alice frame (heavy bastard that it is, with much improved hipbelts and shoulder straps with much less effort.

I think www.tacticaltailor.com has a aftermarket ALICE frame that's pretty good. they also do mods to the packs themselves, for more carrying capacity. ALICE may not be the most comfortable thing around, but you won't find anything tougher!
