You don't need blood. Saliva contains a number of leukocytes derived from the gingival crevice. About 10^9 leukocytes (mostly neutrophils) get out of your body between your teeth and gums per day. Also, saliva contains numerous buccal squames (sloughed epithelium). So, at any rate, people who need DNA to analyze need not go the venipuncture route. As an aside -- The neutrophils (67% of our leukocytes are neutrophils) are there for a purpose. They defend the gums, outside the body but within the gingival crevice (the tiny space between the tooth and the gums), against certain microbes. This is why people with neutrophil defects almost always have bad gums. The neutrophil is heavily armed with many weapons and it can fight anaerobic bacteria in the absence of oxygen! But, all of our other cells also have weapons or can make them. So, our body does advocate the second amendment, LOL!

On the soda tax...the LA County Board of Supervisers voted to support this bill. This apparently means they will use taxpayer funded lobbyists in Sacramento to support this bill to impose this additional tax.

As California goes, so goes the rest of the country. Somebody please tell me where it is written that the purpose of the tax system is to perform social engineering?

Gary Condit, we are looking in YOUR direction.

All of these "sin" taxes are just new methods to raise revenue to offset the $17.5 billion deficit acrued during the recent power "shortage." The soda tax isn't really to help the children, just like the 5 cent per bullet tax isn't really to fund trauma rooms. These taxes are just tools the state government will use to make us pay for all the mistakes THEY made with the power crisis. Who in their right mind is really going to vote to re-elect Gray Davis? Probably a lot of people, but let's hope enough people come to their senses and elect a Republican governor and maybe a few more Republican legislators. Fat chance!

The problem with Califorina is the leaders are FAT in the head.

You wacky Californians! My suggestion would be to stop illegal imigrant voter fraud in California. That should reduce the democratic vote by 2 million or so. That 2 million illegal imigrant voter fraud would have made Bush the winner in California and the popular vote winner. I suggest Bush's crew knew and that is why Bush campaigned there close to the election... Hey... Paul and Imbrogio together, virtually... what gives? Either this supposed split personality thing - two different nom de plumes - is out of control or Paul and Imbroglio are not a conspiracy. Stay tuned, the mystery continues...

The democrats only smell money, they couldn't care less about kids if they tried and believe me they don't. I doubt you will see any ads runing excet maybe at 0400 on qvc. Time for California to wise up -- they are being fleeced bigtime.

OT:The electrical power debacle where Calif. incurred the debt of $10 billion due to the malfunctioning deregulation law. But in the meanwhile, Gray Davis and company is passing more gun control laws. This shows that gun control for Calif. democrats is a very high priority, even in face of billions of dollars of debt. Some of those folks probably won't survive re-election.

I am a guest of the crown under military orders (not suggestions [:)]) and they do get rather upset when a military member doesn't go where they've been posted. I had reached my 20 year retirement and was fixing to leave when this Afghanistan thing got started ... then they threw a second star at me ... at this rate I'm going to end up a lifer if I'm not careful. Except for the best looking women and the great weather this place in the pits. The political climate does forge some pretty hard core resistance and I've met some really good people here. I've got to get up into the high desert and put some rounds down range ... that always makes me feel better for awhile.

Paul, "Second star" as in RADM (Upper half) or as in MCPO? Just curious, understand. [>:/] (28 year retired USN.)

Because the Democrats say so! They actually believe that the rest of us are not fit to run our society and that they are far better suited to the job of governing. They NEVER met a tax they didn't like, since they use those moneys taken from the producers to create constituents for themselves! For examples of the near-endgame of this incredible ponzi-scheme, look no farther than the incredible shrinking and ever more powerless, corrupt and broken European socialist states.
