I'm 25 years old so I still have a few years to go. We've had some scary moments over the last century and into this one and we are only 10 years in! As a species we've really done some horrific things to each other. And over the stupidest sh*t. Religion, Politics, Race the list goes on and on. Do you think we'll ever see any kind of peace in our lifetime? Regional or otherwise? |
|
I think things are seriously going to heat up. Living in th USA it may or may not effect you profoundly.
|
|
There will never be peace during your time on earth. Ever. For a multitude of reasons.
|
|
Yes, there will never be peace as long as there are people.
The more people there are, the less likely peace becomes. |
|
No.
I believe in all of recorded human history the amount of years "peace has reigned"- meaning no major insurgencies, uprisings, wars, etc- is measured in something like 24 years or so. This comes from my fuzzy memory of an excellent college class I took years ago on world history and conflict. The longest lasting "peace' was, iirc, the ROman EMpire in something like the 12 year range after they had beaten and subjugated the various tribes, factions, etc and made treaties with nations where a war would not make sense (i.e. Egypt). Now- the US may experience "peace" per se but when you have genocides like Rawanda/Bosnia, various regional conflicts, etc the only way the world to have peace would be to completely smash one factions forces and will to fight in a cohesive fashion that would affect a large segment of a population (i.e. 2 or 3 lone fighters killing a few people here and there would not hurt a "peace") |
|
To ask for hope for peace? Sure, I guess. I hope for peace too, but don't expect it.
Realistically? Not a chance. Utopian types always get steamrolled by the powerful. |
|
What is peace? Seriously. Do you mean that all people in the world will get along? Come on, 25 years old is old enough to not worry about childish notions such as this.

Pick a year and somebody can probably find a war or skirmish somewhere. |

Considering that
1)99% of armed conflict happening anywhere in the world at any time was started and perpetuated by Islam, and 2) most countries don't have the balls to call this war what it really is, much less burn a fucking Q'ueeran and stand up to their bullshit simply by excersising their right to free speech, the answer is no, we will never see peace in our lifetime. Nor will our grandchildren. |

There is no such thing as peace in our lifetime. It is human nature to feud, and the world is full of people barely out of the caves who see conflict as their first option rather than their last option.

If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak...
Hope, by itself, is a waste of time and energy. You cannot Hope something into existance. You must DO. As a single person, you may not be able to do much, but by getting your message out, and inspiring others to act with you, we CAN put in motion a plan to bring peace, even if by violence. |
|
It's naive to hope for peace. The US is a warring country, but we are being weakened by Internationalists that want to see us on our knees in supplication and tribute to nearly every other nation.
|
|
I think as long as we have to compete for resources, there will be fighting. From the individual to the nation state.
|
|
Well we had Bosnia and Rawanda to start off the 21st century. We're on par to match the 20th century genocide so I don't think it's likely.
And you know what, if we get rid of all those motivations for war, why would you want to live? I mean imagine a world where nobody cares about accumulating wealth, no religion, no culture. Just get rid of all those things that cause civil unrest and you have a pretty lousy world to live in. |
|
Peace increases in times when a single state is strong enough that activities which interfere with its interests are unthinkable (E.G. Warsaw Pact and the Soviet Republics, 1945-1990) and war rages when no such state exists and a power vacuum prevails, or neighboring states with dissimilar interests lack an overwhelming military edge (E.G. Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Republics, 1990-current; Israel before their tech edge grew over the Arabs). The US currently prevents war across much of the world (Asian countries in or neighboring the Pacific, NATO countries, part of the ME, South America) through shear intimidation. With the Russkies still weak and the Chinese not yet capable of projecting force, if the US military is allowed to disintegrate in the near future the world would experience the mother of all power vacuums.

There has never been peace, since man has walked the earth.

Great answer. And at 25 the short time I've been on this planet I've seen enough to want a end to the chaos we're in and to work toward it is all we can do. Since I've been alive we've had the conflict in Nicaragua, Lebanon, 2 wars in Afganistan, 2 wars with Iraq. The genocides in Bosnia, numerous ones in Africa, Sierra Lionne, Liberia, Somalia, The rise of terrorism the list goes on and on. Islam also stole my truck, caused my wife to cheat on me, and kicked my dog.... |

I was just thinking about this last night. "Am I going to have to take off my shoes and belt and let them xray me every time I fly?"
I doubt they will ever relax any of the current security theater we have to go through, and will be adding more and more throughout the years. Thoughts of a UK-like camera on every corner system came to mind and I decided to think about something else. The "war on terror" seems unwinnable. |
|
I think it's too much to hope for peace period. Human beings are wired to try to take each others shit and fight. |
|
i cant even find peace within myself. i dont expect humans to ever be at peace. in pieces is more likely.

"The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism" -Karl Marx

There will never be peace as long as we fail to identify that which is evil.
"The truly and deliberately evil men are a very small minority; it is the appeaser who unleashes them on mankind; it is the appeaser’s intellectual abdication that invites them to take over. When a culture’s dominant trend is geared to irrationality, the thugs win over the appeasers. When intellectual leaders fail to foster the best in the mixed, unformed, vacillating character of people at large, the thugs are sure to bring out the worst. When the ablest men turn into cowards, the average men turn into brutes." –– Ayn Rand "Harmony is not appeasement. In other words, if one guy says to another "if you speak, I will kill you," and the other shuts up, it is not an example of harmony. Harmony, in this context, is a state in which two sides agree to coexist peacefully which, in turn, objectively requires mutual respect for individual rights, i.e., the freedom to act without coercion or force. A law-abiding citizen can not live in harmony with a criminal. Yet, such a contradiction is exactly what Obama seeks to impose on Americans with regard to Islam." http://dougreich.blogspot.com/2010/09/america-officially-in-dhimmittude.html We are a long, long way from lasting peace, simply because we are a long way from having a majority of the world, or even this nation, understand and uphold individual rights. |

There will never be peace. Ever. +1 This fact follows naturally from the first rule of economics, all resources are scarce. As long as people consume resources, there will always be conflict over resources. Anyone who says different is either an idiot or selling something. |

You are talking about mankind. You need to read about some of the things that we have done to each other in the past. The last 9 years is NOTHING compared with this.
The best that you can hope is that the world you leave your Grandkids will be a little less cruel, a little less mean, and a little less stupid. Anything more than this is not under your control. |

Quoted:
There will never be peace. Ever. Truth. This is a warring planet. Character and strength is developed through adversity. |

At this stage in our evolution as a species, those who wish for peace will only find themselves defeated. Maybe if we somehow manage to survive for another 100,000 years we'll have evolved mentally and spiritually enough to overcome our need to kill, possess, and dominate each other. Prophets have come to teach us the way. We simply don't listen. |
|
No peace.
If there was only one stupid idiot in the world it'll start a war, now imagine there's billions of stupid idiots. |

No, never has been never will. Man is inherently evil and has a destructive nature. As long as there is religion and money on this earth, there will be violence. |

Sure there are two plans AND ONLY two plans for peace in our lifetime.
#1 Convert to Islam now. Scrap the constitution, its a man made document, we already have a constitution FROM GOD! Institute Sharia. #2 Failing that, just appease. Don't do ANYTHING that will insult Islam or Muslims. Or else! No political cartoons, no talking about or being critical of Gods only true revealed religion. Ever see the movie "The road warrior" when Lord Humongous says "just walk away, leave the oil behind, and i'll spare your lives", Well its true we are in a castle, and Lord Humongous says "Give up the Jews that are hiding inside for protection. Just walk away and i'll spare your lives." Just do that. See? It really is just that easy! |

No, never has been never will. Man is inherently evil and has a destructive nature. As long as there is religion and money on this earth, there will be violence. Pretty much. Peace is a farce except between certain groups and close knit communities. Even then, the balance is so delicate. Even without money and religion there would be no peace - there would always be some motivating factor. |

War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.

The next fifty years will be more dangerous than the last.
WMD proliferation, frozen conflicts, and the slow retreat of the existing Levianthan. Only a Euro is stupid enough to believe that soft power means shit. |
