Id like to see the next 3-4 seconds after it hit the squad car. lol.
Yea, those ppl moved pretty fast. |
|
looks to me like the people that ran straight down the road probably avoided the hit becasue the trailer was swinging and probably swung right into the ditch. the guys that ran into the ditch im not so sure.

Anyone have the rest of the story behind this? Did everyone live?
|

I had a moment like that once. Only it was a Deuce and a half instead of a tractor trailer.
Some female PVT was going at least 40 on a single lane dirt road around a corner, saw us parked on the side of the road in a 15 passenger van, slammed her brakes and just kept sliding. The truck stopped about 1 foot away from the van, we all bailed out. Scared the shit out of us and her. We thought she was going to plow right into our van. |
|
I probably would have lived, and then stopped by walmart for a new pack of underwear after the fact...

Quoted: too bad it doesnt show more.. I hope everyone is ok The rest of hte video is just the dashcam turned right 90 degrees and almost on it's side. Everybody walked away unharmed.

Seeing that coming at me.....would probably lead to the discovery that I can teleport!

Talk about tightening down your hatch. That'd have you puckered up for a week!

This is why I hate working wrecks on I-80. And now winter is coming again!

I don't think I would have kept looking over my shoulder. I might be wrong though, I've never been almost pancaked by a Semi and trailer. Still, I think I'd have kept running like the devil himself was right behind my ass as far as I could make it without looking back.

Quoted: IBTSTDC In BeforeThe Stupid Truck Driver Comments. The road looks perfectly straight and it's raining, so it's not icy. How in God's name did he manage to swap ends under those conditions? Jake brake? Gearing down? I don't see braking doing it, the trailer brakes should have kept it aligned. |

Quoted: IBTSTDC In BeforeThe Stupid Truck Driver Comments. I am willing to bet that whatever got the two cars in the initial accident worked it's magic on the truck too. |

Force field? Magnets? The truck is going perfectly straight then right at one spot the trailer starts coming around. Wish I could see in the direction he was heading. But normal braking shouldn't have brought the trailer around like that unless the brakes on the trailer aren't working right. |

But normal braking shouldn't have brought the trailer around like that unless the brakes on the trailer aren't working right. It was most likely oil on the road. Notice the cab starts to go to the left first. Once the cab is at almost a 90 degree to the road, the tires are going sideways relative to the direction of the truck and it begins to slow down due to the drag. The trailer keeps going and being attached to the cab swings around at the connection. I am not sure there was any braking involved. I wish there was sound in the video. |
|
Looks like the truck was slowing down but the trailer didn't want to follow along with the cab, going faster it likely found the easiest way to continue moving in its desired direction, jack-knifed and swung around.... Hot damn, hope I never have to experience that!

I would guess he saw the flashy lights and jacked the brakes. He never countersteered at all. Inexperienced air brake driver.
|
|
Drifting. Hes doing it wrong. I bet a few people needed a change of pants.
|
|
I have been in that scenario TWICE. Both times were at previous crashes. In my cases, the truck didn't crash, but seeing those things sliding sideways and coming straight at you is NO FUN.

He was probably running the engine brake and hit his brakes to hard. I would guess he was running empty also. The combo of foot brake, engine brake and no load weight locked up the rear tractor wheels causing the results seen here. |
