What happened to that hauting Flash video, with the Enya music in the background?
I remember an original one, shortly after 9/11 but can no longer find it - but there are tons of other ones now, using the same music, but there are not as poignant as the first one. Does anyone have a link to the one I am thinking of. |

This makes me think of the line in Lone Survivor. Where Marcus says he kept a picture of a man who was killed on 9/11, he did not know his name, but it reminded him of why he was there. |

On my commute in to work the report came in that the first tower had come down. That day is certainly etched in my mind forever.

I had the TV on watching the news but turned it off so I could shower before my flight back to Germany. As I walked out of my hotel room, a maid told me that the airports were shut down and that I should turn my TV on. I sat there on my bed and watched the TV until well past the time the second tower fell. I then went to a local diner and you could hear a pin drop. I don't remember if I was in uniform or not but everyone looked at me and nodded. I sat there for some time and the older guys talked about their time in the service. |

I went to NYC for the first time in 1998. Actually took a picture of the Twin Towers and lost the photo - I never put it in an album because it didn't come out too nicely (it was a cloudy/rainy day). I figured I'd take a better picture the next time I went back.... who would have ever thought that in three years' time they would no longer be there??
I don't think anyone actually knew what was going on on 9/11. My journalism teacher turned on the TV saying that the WTC had been hit, and the first images were of the Pentagon. I thought, "OK, the Pentagon's not even in NYC, she doesn't know what she's talking about." Then when the news started coming in that there had been not one, not two, but FOUR planes involved, that's when I knew something was wrong. Next period someone said that the towers had collapsed, and I thought, "impossible." But sure enough...
I can't believe the people who go about their lives acting like it never happened - or worse - blaming it on the government. 
My kids WILL learn about this day since I can't trust the public schools to ever inform them. |

I remember riding to work with my brother. We heard breaking reports about a plane hitting one of the towers on the radio. We both thought that it was just some single engine plane incident...
After hearing more reports, we learned that a SECOND plane hit as well. Only then were the planes described as commercial airline sized planes. All shite hit the fan at that point.
I used to lurk this site at the time and couldn't gain access to the net at all from work. The boss's TV in his office wasn't hooked up to cable and rabbit ears didn't cut it. Communication blackout. I really don't believe that this country has been the same since that day. I know that the World changed that day. At least for me. I'll never forget. |

My father was a retired Marine and woke me in time to watch the 2nd plane hit. He was standing shaking his fists and pacing my sisters living room.
He was 6 years under from Parkinsons disease and could barely stand. I had to calm him and sit him down from the adrenaline. Those pricks deserve no quarter and will pay. Lets make sure we elect the right bunch to finish the job next time around. Obama wont do it. !!!!!!!!!! |

I got up to go to the bank and turned the tube on for weather in time to to see the tower get hit.I and this entire country have not been the same since,four dollar gas,stock market and mortgage crash and a slide in morals and values that may never return.Those poor innocents should be in our thoughts every day

I called a neighbor at home and told her that she might need to pick up our oldest at the elementary school which is about half a mile from our house because I wasn't going to able to get home in time. She actually did not know what had happened in NYC/PA/DC (didn't have the TV or radio on) and was kind of put out; she thought I was just staying late at work for my own selfish reasons. Got to daycare and got the two pre-schoolers, headed to school and the parents had to wait in lines to pick up their kids at early dismissal. The kids actually knew about the Pentgagon and fairly accurately figured out that if the plane had gone one minute longer before crashing it would have hit the school. Not that they understood that the Pentagon was targeted; they thought it was a crash. Got home and watched all day. My wife had flown out of Dulles just 12 hours previous to the hijackers on a trip to England. When she called home just to say she was safe and sound, the British international operator (they still had operators back then) told my wife she was so sorry and my wife ha no clue what was up until she was told the US had been attacked. She couldn't ge through and was panicked because she hadn't figured on the time difference and was calling work rather than home. She was stuck waiting at Heathrow for a couple of days before she could ge home. The thing I remember was the utter silence of the skies during the time of no-fly zone over DC, punctuated by occasional fighter jet patrols. Very eerie. |

That day totally changed my life. I was only 16 or 17 at the time and in school when it happened. The full magnitude only hit me a few weeks later when I stood on the front steps of General Lee's Home in Arlington National Cemetery, and overlooking hundred of white headstones, I could see the gaping hole in the Pentagon with 3 Firetrucks spraying water into the smoldering rubble.
That day put me on a new path in my life. I've thought allot about that day, especially on miserable nights training for war or as I lay in my bunk on some shit hole FOB in Iraq. I think about it every time I drive by the Pentagon and see those graves in Arlington.
I can only imagine that this is how those who experienced Pearl Harbor felt. |

I'm spending tomorrow doing some community service work for my company, focusing on helping our children be more competitive in the math and science fields. I try to shut out 9-11 as best I can, lost 40 co-workers and too many friends that day. But for the grace of God I was not on the floor the second plane crashed into like my friends were, I was there the night before and returned to Albany on Amtrak early that morning.
Thank you to those who worked the pile and struggled to save those trapped in the rubble, you have my eternal respect and gratitude. |

Anybody know why? vmax84 The roofs of the bldgs were covered with antenna and lightning rods, no place for a chopper to land. I suppose they could have lowered a boswans chair if they had one, usually only the costies have that equip tho. Also there was alot of smoke obscuring the roof, so with the smoke, antenna, lightning rods. Also the roof access doors were locked so it is not like there were people on the roof hoping to be saved. Sucked I know. I was home sick that day. My best friend called me and told me 'just turn on the tv'. He was a long time alcholic and died in 2007, so I have two things to regret about the date. The towers and remembering my friend, whose body I found. |

I was getting ready to go to work.....watched the second plane hit on tv.
My classes spent the whole day watching the news.
I had a student yesterday, an idiot, I admit, ask me if 9/11 was a holiday. He said it was like Dec. 7th, so it should be a holiday. I explained to him the difference between holidays and days of rememberance. I think he was trolling.....
