why the fuck does this pin seem to kick people's asses so badly???

For now, just take your punch and drive it back out, and then go buy a good LPK (DD, RRA, etc) and build it properly.

What I do with these is I cover the left side of the lower with duct tape, and then start the pin into the hole by gingerly tapping it with a hammer, which is sliding across the duct tape.  Then I lay a punch along the side of the lower and carefully tap the pin in until it's almost to the cutout ofr the bolt catch.

It really helps to have someone holding things in alignment while you WATCH where you are hammering.

Anyway, I then have my helper hold the bolt catch in position and continue tapping the roll pin down until the bolt catch is binding lightly.  At this point I wiggle the bolt catch a bit until the roll pin "finds" the hole in the bolt catch. At this point continue tapping the roll pin the rest of the way in...

Now if you are a retard like me and forget the plunger and spring the first time you will be happy to know the pin will tap right back out from the other direction!

Or you can slave pin it from the other side or use channel lock pliers and do it yourself.

Um get yourself the three "roll pin" punches from Stanley Pro (protus) or snap-on or matco. They don't suck like Harbor Freight.

Use a 3-4 oz hammer (tap tap tap not bang bang bang).

I use a standard household hammer to break free FSB pins from new rifles in one smack, a framing hammer has no biz in AR construction.

This is like the 4th or 5th lower that I've built. Never been a problem before.
You obviously don't have the required cranial equipment to properly execute a roll pin installation.

I blame DPMS and their shitty products, we all know that if it was a Daniel Defense or Spikes LPK that the roll pin would've broke my hammer

Ouch.    Good thing it's easily fixed, as long as that isn't a crack we see.

I used DPMS LPK's in all 4 AR's that I've built here at home and several builds for friends on top of that and I've never had one do that.

Good luck getting her squared away OP.
