Why to places feel the need to charge $12 to ship a 8" piece of aluminum?

I want a DSA scope mount for my FAL and the 2 places that I can find it (Brownells and DSA) both want $12 to ship it UPS ground, why not use USPS priority and charge me $6?

Any ideas on who else might have this item?

Try calling them and switching the shipping.

IMHO $12 doesn't seem too bad, but I live in AK, so YMMV.

$12 is perfectly reasonable.

Not IMO

$12 to ship an upper, ok no problem.

$12 to ship a 8" piece of aluminum that doesn't even weigh a pound? No thanks

THey should include profit in the price, not the shipping.

Someone is too lazy to look at the cheat sheet.

When I get into that situation I just start adding more stuff to my cart until I feel the shipping is justified.  Sometimes this means I wait days, weeks, or even a month or two, with that shopping cart before I pull the trigger.

Solution:

Drive to IL, buy, drive back...

If this will be over $12, reconsider paying for shipment...

I ended up ordering it from Brownells using my C&R discount, the savings made up for the shipping.

This... It takes fuel and the labor of a bunch of different people just to get one item from one part of the country to the other. They aren't a charity, they deserve to be paid for their work just like you.

I feel your pain.  I was going to order a set of .45 grips from VZ.  65 bucks for the grips.  That was bad enough.  Then they want 16 bucks for shipping.  They're fucking grips.  What do they weigh?  At the most 4 oz.  You could put them in an envelope.  I said fuck it.  I could do without them.

This isn't the first time I've blown off ordering something because someone wants to scam me on shipping.
