Over the past year I've lost weight (45 lbs) through diet and exercise and been on metformin which I stopped a month ago.

During that time my hgb dropped 1.5 gm/dl so it's now .1 below the lab's lower limit.
I'm not having any anemia symptoms and iron supplements for a month failed to raise my hgb.

My diet is pretty good for iron and I started taking b12 and c along with the iron supplement.

Next steps are a gastro and a small intestine study.

Is this pretty much the standard procedure?
Is there anything else I should be doing in the meantime?
My doc seems like he's on top of this, he gives me copies of my labs and what I don't understand I look up.
Is there anything else I should be asking him?

BTW, no dibs on guns, I have every intention of using them for a long time.

Have they taken a look at your spleen? Mine was killing red blood cells left and right.

Feeling tired?
Night sweats?
Lack of appetite?

I have epstein barr and cytomegalovirus AKA MONO. From what I learned both of those will cause you to become enemic.

During the course of my testing they wanted to make sure I didn't have any sort of intestinal problems.....they were looking there because of anemia. You'll be fine.

Oh, I was taking suplements as well and was still way anemic.
