Beware murphy's law! My personal experience on about the 5th shot I ever took standing with this technique. I was propping the FAL up with my left hand like a waiter holds a tray, and bam, ruptured case. It felt like I imagine holding a small firecracker would feel, it stung.

Partially inflated mag (glad it was the stronger Imperial pattern instead of metric) 
A soot tatoo that went away after about a week.

i don't do it because i don't like shooting that way but if you think of the force you use slapping in the mag it is probably far more of an impact than when it bounces from rifle recoil. I don't really see how it could do any damage other than scratching the bottom of the mag. |
