What is the best non-1911 (and includes the 1911a1) steel frame .45 acp handgun?
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 3:29:12 PM EDT
Simulated steel Glock, of course.

There isn't one.

Non-exsistent, says I.

The 1917? There really is no substatute for real, steel perfection.

Well if it cant be a 1911 how bout a 1991A1 ?

Sig P220 is made of metal.

I wouldn't buy a new Sig, though. Heard to many horror stories about modern Sig QC.

Sig 220

Link Posted: 9/5/2010 3:31:23 PM EDT
Steel frame limits the selection, for a good reason...

This is my Megastar, note the nearly 3 pound empty weight!

Link Posted: 9/5/2010 3:32:53 PM EDT
All stainless Sig P220. There are always several on Gunbroker. This would be my preference. I love P220's.

CZ97 is also an excellent choice.

CZ97.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 3:34:57 PM EDT
Having shot my first 220 a couple weeks ago I am going to have to jump on that bandwagon.

Why not get a FNP45 and have the best handgun ever made?

What about 3rd Gen S&W such as the 4506?

Had a P220ST and it was awesome but too heavy to carry. That or the CZ97B (never had) would be a good choice...

I completely forgot about those.

Smith made a nice .45. I prefer the slightly shorter 4566, but they all were nice guns.

The single action S&W 745

Sig 220.

Hence why after I got my I promptly sold my SS Springfield 1911A1.

The Sig is lighter, handles better, is more accurate and has better ergo's and features, one being the DA/SA trigger with decocker (at least on the model I have).

Some of you need to specify on the Sigs cause not all of the 220s are steel...The OP said steel...
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 4:07:56 PM EDT
I had an S&W 745, fine pistol. I sometimes wish I hadn't sold it. I have a CZ 97B, it's a fine gun as well.

The 220ST. And no, it isn't too heavy to CCW.

And you can get a .22lr conversion kit too.

Ruger P90, but the frame is aluminum.

CZ-97B:

P220 is an alloy frame, not steel, IIRC.

P220ST; both frame and slide are stainless steel.

Is it steel framed?

Agreed on both counts. The P90 is a great gun but not steel framed.

There is also a .45acp version of the Baby Eagle which is really nice as well.

FN-FNP in 45 has been the best polymer pistol I have found thus far. I prefer my 1911 though even if it only holds 7 or 8 rounds at a time.

reading comprehension was not my strong suite on the ASVAB. That said, Sig P220
