I need to go through my firearms stuff more often.

Found 4 of these in a box I had completely forgotten about.

Colt staight 20 rounders, I like the old school look myself.

20rd mags are awesome.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 9:52:31 AM EDT
I like them on long range/ target rifles because they don't get in the way when you're laying down.

Me, they don't get in the way when using a bench rest, plus, I just like them. Got plenty of each, but usually use the 20's when I go to the range, 30s are great for SHTF though.

I have some of those straight 20s. They hold an even box of ammo. Pmag 20s are curved though.

ETA ok. I suck. They are not curved––thinking of my 7.62's

eta: all mags are awesome. Except for shitty ones.

I like em too.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 9:56:28 AM EDT
I have a couple that I have never actually used.

I mainly just use them as props if doing a photo for the retro forum.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 9:57:46 AM EDT
I have a couple colt aluminum mags and a couple pmags. I use them from time to time, keep one in my "go to gun" because it's easier to get out of the safe/ fit in a case loaded.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 9:58:22 AM EDT
I like them and I don't have enough of them. I picked up about a dozen of the old Colt marked 20 rounders at a gun show a couple of years back for around $3 each. I keep my eyes open for more at every gun show, but I either don't see anymore or they're too expensive.

. I only buy 20 rounders for AR and mini 14.

very cool

I hated them.

Until I realized Denver has a ban on hi-caps. Now I keep some around just in case (I have family in Denver).

Otherwise it's all 30 rounders...

Way awesome...much handier in/out of vehicles and aircraft. I run 20s on the sides of my armor...to clear my elbows/arms.

Sad story: I've seen units turn in BOXES, huge boxes full of them to be destroyed.

5.56 P-Mags are straight.

7.62 P-Mags are curved.

Same here.

I bought a 5/9 round mag for bipod clearance, and it sucks. Then I got a few 20 round mags and they are just the ticket for shooting from a rest.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 10:27:56 AM EDT
I use 20's as a starter.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 10:29:15 AM EDT

Somewhere in my stash I have an original GI box of 4 (maybe it's 5) Colt 20s. I've kinda wondered if it's worth anything?
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 10:29:52 AM EDT
The 20 shot clips are great but I read that in Vietnam they only loaded the clips with 17 bullets so it wouldn't jam.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 10:34:13 AM EDT
I too prefer the 20s when shooting from the bench, but I can make do, if I have to with the 30 round mags.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 10:36:08 AM EDT
Me...

Yup,love my 20 rd mags of 7.62 goodness.

We are talking M14's right .I had abunch of Vietnam vintage 20rd. M16 mags but have long since sold them all to guys building A1 clones.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 10:39:47 AM EDT
I've got a few Colt straight 20's, they have a place and a purpose.

............. but then I'm old school like that
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 10:42:05 AM EDT
I have more 20 round mags than 30 rnd
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 10:42:29 AM EDT
all I use is 20 round mags. They are better to shoot off a bench with and more practical for me.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 10:44:17 AM EDT

I don't own any right now, but I plan on getting some 20 round PMags here soon. I'll probably get rid of my USGI mags and replace them with PMags.

Link Posted: 9/5/2010 10:45:36 AM EDT
I've got a few kicking around. they are just too damn convenient to not have some.

Bench, prone, tuck one in a back pocket, anything.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 10:46:06 AM EDT
I like 20rd mags.
Link Posted: 9/5/2010 10:46:19 AM EDT
The last time I had 20-rounders I gave them away as a Christmas Present.
Everything I have are 30 round mags w/one C-Mag.

Oh shit... I can hear it coming.

Especially for you.

Damn nice!

I've got to have me one waffle mag for the collection.

I really like my 20 rounders, better than 30's AFAIC.

Much better for shooting from prone than 30-rounders. All my grab-and-go rifle bags have only 20-rounders in them.

I always preferred 20 rounders for shooting prone or from a bench.

I have two original waffle mags when there were no alternatives to be had.

You will be happy to know that you can get awesome repro waffle mags from NoDak Spud as opposed to paying $200-300 for an original.

Me!

I like them because the seem to work so well. Never, ever had any problems with them.

Plus, quite a few of mine have metal followers and Hartford horseys on the baseplates.

i like them, use them more than 20 rounds for prone and bench shooting. they need to be cheaper though.
What was the purpose of waffling (not sure if that is a word) the mags?

At the time, it was thought to make the body more rigid and less prone to damage if stepped on, dropped, mashed, etc...

I do!

waiting for a good sale to pick up a few more.

straight 20s and 20 round P mags are teh roxxor...

curved 20 rounders are teh ghey.....so teh ghey that Ru Paul wouldn't be caught dead with them in "sher" AR.

My "go to" mags that I know are dependable and will work interchangeably on all my ARs.

Straight 20 aluminums (even better with the metal follower). 5" long.

A little less than 5 inches at the longest point in the back.
