On a MBP 13in right now, and you couldn't pay me to use a Windows based laptop again. I've gone through 3 Dell and ASUS laptops in 5 years. MBP is the only one so far I haven't had constant problems with. I hate Steve Jobs, and the fanboy mark up, but I'm willing to pay the premium to get something that fucking works well 95% of the time.

ETA: how does a MAC achieve such great battery life ~ 9-10 hours vs a similar PC laptop that's only good for less than 3-4 hours iirc? |

seriously thanks for the advice guys, i use it making for a lot of MS Office work, web/porn surfing , but the no video games part might suck. so is there a comparable PC laptop that's built nice and not 3 inches thick? How about a Sony Vaio? If you can wait a few months, Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac will be available. You may want to recheck on video games, Apple has been improving in that area. Or, you could get an Xbox. |

Remove bottom cover, remove old modules, insert new modules, replace bottom cover. 10 minutes on a bad day, but don't lose the screws. |

I'm typing this from my Macbook Pro right now. Mine crashed almost a year after I got it, apparently a hardware issue with the HDD. They replaced it free of cost. Even with my computer bricking on me, I'd buy again. IMHO, much much better for everything I do than Windows, and not prone to viruses. |

Yes, you can dual-boot both OS X and Windows (either XP or 7), but it would be madness to pay the Mac premium if you're mostly going to run Windows-only applications, like the games you listed. No one has specifically mentioned this, but be aware that virtualization software such as Parallels or Virtualbox will NOT let you play Windows games on a Mac. For <insert long, boring technical explanation here> reasons, virtualization software is lousy at running 3D graphics applications, such as games. They run poorly under virtualization, or not at all. So you have to dual-boot with Windows if you want to play Windows games on a Mac. Which, again, means you might as well just buy a Windows notebook. If you really have a hard-on about the Mac OS or some Mac-exclusive apps (of which there are very few worth mentioning, I sure can't think of any), go for it. Otherwise, you might as well get a Windows machine for half the price. The price difference will buy a lot of Windows software. It makes a lot more sense than paying out the nose for the OS X "experience," then installing Windows anyway. Pocketgnome.. there that one is worth the price of the mac.. Gettign ready to pull the trigger on a mac mini or 13 mac book for the kid.. Im tired of rebuilding a system every 2 months.. |
