I've never seen the movie, but thousands of people die and are born everyday. I doubt it would upset the balance of life too much.

but let me guess the plot of the movie has someone killed that sets off some catostrophic or horrible chain of events that comes back to bite the button pusher in the butt.

I LOVE THOSE SO MUCH!!!

No. Money is never worth the price of someone's life. Unless it was guaranteed the person dying was a pedophile or something. but you wouldn't have any way of knowing, and I would rather be safe than sorry.

If the victim was guaranteed to reside in the middle east........F-yes.

Another way to look at it is:
* The overall median income is $32k/yr.
* The average effective tax rate is roughly 43%.
* The federal budget is about 3.5 trillion dollars.
* There are roughly 310 million people in the US.
* The average person will work for roughly 45-50 years of their life
* The average life expectancy is 78 years

So...
* The average person will make about 1.5 million dollars in their lifetime (in today's dollars)
* The average person will pay $645,000 of that in taxes
* That equates to 20 years of your life, or 25% of your total life expectancy
* The federal budget alone is 9.5 billion (9,500 million) dollars per day
* That equates to 294,573 man-years of life, or 3,776 total lives, every day

So, every minute...
* The federal government alone "kills" 2.6 people and "gets" 6.6 million dollars for doing it.
* That's 2.5 million per "button press."

However, that assumes that everyone that "dies" is "killed" at birth. If you figure that the median age is 36.8 years old (or 41.2 years left to live), then you're actually talking about 1.2 million dollars per "button press." Which is pretty close to the proposed model.

In essence, Washington is pushing the button every 11 seconds.

In the time it took me to write this post, the government killed over 30 Americans.

I would push the button before he could finish his spiel. I'm not a big fan of people anyway
Link Posted: 9/2/2010 1:33:37 PM EDT
i'd have to negotiate first.

something along the lines of, "i don't know any of the motherfuckers that wrote, directed or acted in "the box" if you get my meaning..."

me to do that.
Link Posted: 9/2/2010 1:39:22 PM EDT
I would press the button then instantly draw my G19 and put 15 in his chest and one to the computer. I think that would count since I didn’t really know the guy. See, not so bad. Oh, then I would call the LEOs.

I saw a Twilight Zone or some such show exactly like this.

They take the box after he pushes the button and tell him they are giving it to someone he doesn't know.

This would be my thoughts. Nobody gives away anything for nothing. There's always a string attached even if it's a friendly jesture.

Amazing what they hide in the fine print of the contract!

I'd have shot the guy who brought the button in the head, then pushed it. After all, I didn't know HIM.

The premise for this movie was an episode on a TV show that was either the newest Twilight Zone or something similar.

No, I wouldn't press the button.

No, really, we don't. I don't make a poor child die, and in fact our country gives a shitload of money to poor countries to try to keep those kids from dying. What's making them die is political instability and/or opression in their country that keeps aid from being distributed to its intended recipients.

Haven't seen the movie, but read a short story on this premise in jr. high. " Push the button, someone dies, you get rich." Guy whines a lot and pushes the button. Story ends with the man picking up the box, button pusher asks "What will you do with the box now?"

"We'll make someone else the same offer we made you".
