Loved the blood splatter on the lense of the camera at the beginning when he put one in the little gators head.

That last one, 12'2" 760lbs..... Holy shit that thing was heavy. I wouldn't have thought them that heavy
Link Posted: 8/22/2010 6:44:48 PM EDT
From Louisiana, so I guess I've gotta watch. Wish I HAD some etouffee...

These guys suck at life! Why all the 22lr?
Link Posted: 8/22/2010 6:48:21 PM EDT
I never would have imagined a ruger 10/22 to be a choice rifle for 800 lb gators. I guess I just don't know much about the sport

I'm guessing it's similar to trappers; smaller hole in the cape. Enough at 5', and won't go through the boat when you have to finish off one that's "still alive." That was funny, "I think he's still alive!". "boom" right in the boat

Because it works. The skulls are not all that tough. And using anything larger can ruin the skin, the most valuable part of the gator.

Most farm butchering jobs start with a .22 lr shot to the head, just like these gators.
Link Posted: 8/22/2010 6:59:09 PM EDT
.22lr is plenty enough gun for an alligator.
Link Posted: 8/22/2010 6:59:27 PM EDT
I am guessing these are some good people. The kind of people I would like to live around.
Link Posted: 8/22/2010 6:59:42 PM EDT

because the .22lr is a fantastic round and can be utilized for damned near everything.

Those things are all over the rural areas of my parish. Hell, some of em are already oiled up and ready for frying, thanks to BP.
I'm in Terrebonne, at the bottom...way at the bottom.

In on one for lethality of the .22lr
Link Posted: 8/23/2010 11:51:15 AM EDT
That is the most common way of dispatching them, and other animals typically trapped as in nutria, etc.
Link Posted: 8/23/2010 11:58:28 AM EDT
In the previews for future shows I don't know what the did to that baby coon but it was PISSED!
Link Posted: 8/23/2010 12:17:35 PM EDT
I loved the "Put me on some coffee" bit.

"Why don't you do it?" "Don't feel like it."
Link Posted: 8/23/2010 12:23:19 PM EDT
I need to watch this show.
Link Posted: 8/23/2010 12:32:23 PM EDT

So which round for gators?
36 grain copper plated HP, or 40 grain lead solid?

It's TV, which is meant for entertaining, which this does for me.

Is this show available to watch online anywhere?
Link Posted: 8/23/2010 4:59:35 PM EDT

My dad lives in Chalmette...

He comes in twice a year,, spring time cooks crawfish..
fall its shrimp...
Had alligator sausage also this spring...it kicked ass..
Link Posted: 8/23/2010 8:36:33 PM EDT
I used to get 5 tags per year. A 22lr is big enough. You shoot them b/w the eyes, about an inch back. Doubleor triple tap would be best . i started using an ar but quickly realized it was overkill.

One thing I did notice is that they didn't tape up some of the gators mouths when they brought them in the boat. We did. Their reflexes/ muscles can move for hours after they are dead, just like bullfrogs. They might just snap down if their mouth is open..... we didn't take that chance. We'd duct tape their mouths prior to bringing in the boat.

It used to be good money, $30 per foot and then some if you'd skin them yourself. The alligator farms are what keeps the prices lower. We'd sell enough to make our money back from buying the licenses, bait and beer. and keep the rest. I've never had it in etoufee, but we'd fry it.

Man...I've got a Fleur De Lis tattoo on my right shoulder that's surrounded by "Lassez Les Bon Temps Roulet" ...LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL...and THAT is what being from that part of Louisiana is all about bud. Anyway...Chalmette/St. Bernard is my roots! My dad's from Chalmette, and my aunt, uncles, and grandmother are still down there. Katrina didn't run them out, and I doubt they'll ever leave.

I was born in Lafayette, and grew up on 'da westbank dahlin'

I grew up fishing all around Hopedale, Reggio, Delecroix, etc.

One last thing...I don't care what they say...anything North of Opelousas...not the same.

If you go to 'Da Parish' and don't go to Rocky and Carlos and get a dressed roast beef poboy, a side of baked macaroni and red gravy, and a barqs rootbeer...you've missed it!

Hax

I try to get there every time I visit, about twice a year. Good to see St. Bernard so well represented here.
If I couldn't get Barqs here in NC, I would've moved back a long time ago.
