I posted that original concept for a poster based on the 1969 Woodtock poster on the BRC Forum, and got a bunch of replies.

FrankSquid tweaked the poster to look like this:

So what do y'all think about it now?

See any problems?

Is this cool? Comments!

One problem:

"Presents" should be changed to "present" since "AR15.com & Castle Arms" is a plural subject.

You should also add "2002" to the dates.

Otherwise, it's great! [:)]

Why is it so pixelated? I can't read a thing.

Awesome idea though.

I have asked anyone that can help, simply take the design and make it better!

FrankSquid did a great job, though, and I am certain he can add a little bit here, a little bit there, whatever!

Now we need to work on this Crosby Stills Nash & Young song! (I don't think Young was with them at Woodstock, though)

Woodstock

Well I came across a child of God
He was walking along the road
And I asked him tell where are you going
This he told me

Well I am going down to Yasgur's farm
Going to join in a rock and roll band
Goin' to get back to the land to set my soulfree

We are stardust, we are golden
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden

Well then can I walk beside you
I have come to lose the smog
And I feel like I'm a cog in something turning
And maybe it's the time of year
Yes and maybe it's the time of man
And I don't know who I am but life is for learning

We are stardust, we are golden
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden

By the time we got to Woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere there was song and celebration
And I dreamed I saw the bombers jet planes
Riding shotgun in the sky
Turning into butterflies
Above our nation.

We are stardust, we are golden
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden

Fini

There's a lot to be said about that song that just lends itself to parody!

Should we call it 'Woodenstock'?

'Plasticstock'?

'Buttstock'? (Sounds the best, but it has certain, hmm, connotations I don't like!)

Eric, not to rain on your parade...but I live very near the woodstock area. The hippies of the 60's have become the capitalists of today. I know they have copyrighted all the woodstock stuff, I am not sure you are in any violation or that you even care, just wanted to fore warn you. By the way I want to go on record that if you associate this w/woodstock in any way you are inviting the rain gods pour down on the BRC. Are you familiar with the area (loch sheldrake) which is close to the concert site ?

Isn't 'parody' a permitted exception to any copyright claim?

Ask 'Weird Al' Yankovich!

But as I have said, my area of expertise is not copyright law.
By the way I want to go on record that if you associate this w/woodstock in any way you are inviting the rain gods pour down on the BRC.

Hey, if the hippies could handle a little rain, I think we should be no less determined!

Besides, we won't be stoned (?) enough to let the rain get on anything we love and cherish!

This is a better answer to the copyright issue and the 'parody' exception:

"The concise query of one commentator raises many aesthetic and philosophic questions about the nature of parody. What is the point of any parody? Usually it involves the portrayal of something that evokes something familiar, but then adds unexpected content. It's sort of a step above a mere non-sequitur. The Supreme Court has approvingly quoted the definition of a parody as a "literary or artistic work that imitates the characteristic style of an author or a work for comic effect or ridicule." (Campbell v. Acuff Rose Music, Inc. (1994)).

Voila! I think we're in like Flynn!

Eric: Wierd Al still has to get permission from the copyright holder before he can make a parody.  He got into big trouble with Almish Paradise, as his record company didnt get permission with Coolio.  In the end, his record company paid an "undisclosed amount" of cash to Coolio so that he would be ok with it.

Well maybe his label has an agreement with the other artists' labels, who knows.

But Mad Magazine has been doing and getting away with parodies since the 1950s.

I doubt that a lot of the folks they parodied in their pages agreed to that!

Besides, what do you make of this quote?

The proposed poster does nothing if not attempt comic effect and riducule.

I'll do a little research on this, as well.

No, no cross-hairs, please!

It's all about 'peace and guns'![:D]

Besides, who would be targeting a dove that is sitting quietly on someone's AR?

Take that boy's weapon away from him quickly! Send him packing!

I think you need to add a "American Spectator" peace symbol.

Imagine a circle with a B-52 inside.

Peace baby !!!!!

Yeah, definitely T-shirts.  That way, even those of us who don't attend can give a little money and it would be good advertisement for next year's (?) BRC if people ask about it.
