ETA: On a semi-serious note, a lot of Christian leaders believe that they need to be aware of what's out there in order to preach against it. You can't speak out against something you know nothing about, so they examine a bit of material for reference. Playboy is, quite arguably, the tamest of "porn" that's out there. Quotes for emphasis because it's just as easily labeled art. Certainly, the photo artists that retouch the pictures are very good at what they do. But I think that there could be a legitimate case made for a pastor to need to look at it. That said, I wouldn't pay for it. I also don't care if anyone else does. Including religious leadership. |

Yeah, a pastor should be a master of his self. And someone addicted to porn doesn't seem like they are a master of themselves... A pastor should be of the highest moral integrity, and viewing pornography is a disqualified... That being said, there are varying doctrines concerning sexual purity among various churches. There is a "Christian" church here in Colorado that openly promotes homosexuality among its members... So I wouldn't put it past some denominations to turn a blind eye to this sort of thing... But to me it is a clear violation of sacred duty. But keep it to yourself. And your wife should not make a habit of this sort of thing. |

Confront him in concern and love. Another Church in town? Depends on their faith and practice...sadly some churches wouldn't care-also keep in mind that if they do care, and he gets canned bc your wife spilled the beans it could theaten her job. If not your pastor- What I would (strongly) recommend is do what Samuel did with David (show his sin) YOU (not your wife ) should make an appointment with him for a 'counseling session regarding sin' (tell him or the secretary this phrase). When you get there, introduce yourself (first name only), sit down and he'll ask about your sin-tell him you are well aware of your own sin and strive to live a holy life (if indeed you do). You are here regarding the sin of a brother in Christ. And you need to know what you should do. He will then inquire what the issue is. tell him that you are aware a local church leader is involved in porn-unrepentantly, what does he advise you do to restore the brother? After he gives you counsel. read him this: 2Sa 12:1 And the LORD sent Nathan to David. He came to him and said to him, "There were two men in a certain city, the one rich and the other poor.
The rich man had very many flocks and herds, but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought. And he brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his children. It used to eat of his morsel and drink from his cup and lie in his arms, and it was like a daughter to him. God made our bodies, we were naked from the beginning, the fig leaf wasn't His idea after The Fall, and by condemning the naked body we are, in effect, condemning Him, as well, since we are made in His image and by His own hands. It's like some in the church are contented with telling God, "Hey, God, somewhere along the way you made a mistake but we'll fix it for you by covering everything up and making sure nobody sees anything. Don't worry, God. We got your back."
