I am leaving for South America for an extended trip. I currently use an Eagle Industries Becker Patrol Pack for everything from backpacking to general travel. Is it not a good idea to look "military/DEA/CIA" in this part of the world? Should I go with a civilian looking pack? Thanks for the advice from fellow travelers...

Try to look as much like average Joe Civilian as you can. May not help if you get in a situation, but it can't hurt.

It might not be a good idea to attract attention with your Becker gear.  Have you thought of using a Kelty bag for your trip?

Personally, I try to look as "civilian" as possible when I'm abroad.
