Just heard on a radio station that Tom Selleck will have a Magnum PI movie. Written by Tom Clancy. Whoohoo, Higgie baby, TC and Rick.

I am there! I actually tried to buy the Ferrari that was used in the series, it went for $490k at auction...
Link Posted: 4/4/2002 4:51:46 AM EDT
The only thing better than Magnum PI is the Rockford Files. I sure hope the Magnum movie is better than those embarrassingly geriatric 'Rockford Movies'.

Every Thurday night 8pm, I was watching Magnum PI. Always tried to never miss an episode. I fell in love with his 308 Ferrari.
Link Posted: 4/4/2002 5:07:32 AM EDT
That would be a good thing. [^] [^] [^] I remember during the Magnum series they had a 2-hour "back to Viet Nam" episode that was pretty damn good. Magnum and Higgins got captured, Rick was sick, and TC worked on a chopper the whole time. [8D] [8D] Anyone else remember that?
Link Posted: 4/4/2002 5:39:12 AM EDT
I remember that one, one of my favorites. Hell, they are all my favorites. [:D]

Stop trying to impress us with how much money you have! As I remember, the series ended with him going back in the Navy. I wonder if in the movie he will be civilian or Navy.

Found this searching... According to the "Internet Movie Database," Mr. Hillerman is not dead: "(1996) Reports of the death of Mr. Hillerman were confused with the death of another John Hillerman. This Mr. Hillerman is alive and well." He is listed as "Dr. Whitehead" on last year's "Very Brady Sequel." And who cares if Hielo has tons of $. Glad someone with $ is a gun lover not a gun grabber.

Well I actually tried to buy TC's VW Island Hopper van used in the series, it went for $1800 from a private party...... It sold before I got to it. BTW - there were several Ferraris used in the filming of the show. Now I am pissed A&E on Monday quit showing Magnum in the morning. I have been watching it every morning for 4 years.

May 14, 1996... A strong rumor about this project surfaced in an interview given to T.V. Guide by Tom Selleck. Selleck told the magazine that he'd like to do a Magnum movie "more than anything" for Universal. And - here's where it gets really interesting - Tom Clancy has apparently agreed to write the screenplay for it. Yowza. [Scoop sent in by an undercover Christian (working for Higgins).

As an aside a decent 308GTSi can be had for about $30K, but it's the maintenance that'll cost you. [:O]

All the above and..."Spenser for Hire"! Hell, I even like the A&E movie versions with Robert Urich, and then later Joe Mantegna. Speaking of Robert Urich... I also really enjoyed "Lazarus Man" on TBS Semper Fi Dave

Best Episode? 1) Did You see the Sunrise? 2 Parts Mac dies Ivan dies 2) The Episode when he finds his wife 3) The Episode when Magnum had to tread water for 24 hours

(Ivan)Yes I did, Magnum, why? (scene ends on Magnum firing a single shot from his M1911A1, in the direction of the camera) (next scene opens to the narrator reading a news report about a Soviet embassy attache being shot and killed by his driver, whose whereabouts are unknown.) JUSTICE!!

I once searched everywhere to see if I could find a ring like the one he wore. Never found it and this was before the internet. Wonder if I could find a copy today. [:D] Favorite guns of the characters. Magnum - 1911 Rick - Uzi TC - ?? Higgins - ??

One of the best episodes. I also liked the one where he and Higgins were locked in the elevator in the building about to be demolished... where he said he had an Uncle Otis (Otis Elevators) and was so sure that Higgins was Robin Masters.

TC had a S&W Six-gun .38 or .357

I like the episode when Magnum and Higgins where destroying each others prized possessions. A few years ago my roommate left a porn tape in my VCR which was set to record Magnum. An hour of Magnum in the middle of his porn tape really seemed to piss him off.

A Magnum PI movie would be awsome! I was a complete Magnum freak when I was growing up. Magnum PI Thursday at 7 and Simon and Simon at 8 PM. I used to try and dress and act like him, even went and bought one of those counterfit .45's from Collectors Armory. Built plastic model kits of his car and TC's chopper. Those were the good ol' days, the early 80's when guns were still ok, no AW ban, the end of a different era. My mom still teases me about it all, and asks me what happen to my Magnum build, now at 36 I look more like Higgins! LOL

Anyone remember the show "SWAT"? How long did that show run? I can still remember clearly the opening sequence with the guy crashing headlong through a window, somersaulting, and coming up hip-firing his M-16. -kill-9

Some one mentioned counterfeit 1911's.... Yeah, I bought one of those too. Was 16 and even went through the trouble of having it sent to a PO box (rented it for one month). My Mom kicked it one day when she was cleaning my bed and I was busted! Though she wasn't too pissed when she found out that it was a replica. Gave it back to me and I still have it. Actually, it's now in the possession of a friend who is registered here under the screen name of ThomasMagnum. He handled it a while before buying his Kimber. And he has an authentic TM Hawaiian shirt. And a Detroit Tigers baseball cap. (That's the right team, right? Not a big bb fan.) Anyhoo, think I'm a TM fan? [:D] PS 1911 is my favorite pistol. Guess why? And I'd love to own a 308 -- I could afford to buy one but not maintain it. PPS Ever want to teach a princess how to swim? [;)] Oh yeah, she knew how to swim....

Hate to tell you guys this.....but....Tom and a few other Macho types in hollyweird are actually "lite in their loafers". Perhaps not known to the general public but it well known in the entertainment industry that John Wayne and Richard Chamberlain are/were also.

Oh yeah, one more. Favorite quote: "Don't look at the dogs, work on the lock!" I'm sure that's just a paraphrase, but I've used it many times over the past two decades to focus my attention at critical times.

Richard Chamberlain...yes, The Duke...I'm not sure but I sure hope not, Tom...definately not! He was married for a long time to a friend's mom. Met him once. Nice guy.

Netscape pops up a warning about a "security hazard" when I try to view this site. I don't know if it's a real problem or not. Someone either here or on rec.guns posted about this site: http://http://www.ultimatemagnum.com/ which was extremely helpful to me. For years, I'd wondered about a really intense song played during one episode, and this site's search feature turned it up within a couple of minutes: Unfinished Business "The Bolivian", by Genesis. This one was my favorite episode. The "Ivan" episode, Did You See the Sunrise?, runs a close second, though.

Outstanding! I've always wanted to see more of that character. I was wondering why we haven't seen a Magnum PI movie yet. "Higgins!!!!" CMOS
Link Posted: 4/5/2002 4:54:42 PM EDT
Magnum's "M1911A1 .45" was a Star 9mm. Getting a real M1911A1 to function reliably with blanks was nearly impossible. TC's first Hughes 500D was sold after the first finale. It's replacement crashed into a flooded field due to a mechanical failure while doing external load work a year or so after the second finale. Last I heard, Universal killed the "Magnum goes to North Korea on a SEAL op to destroy North Korean nukes" movie as it might have seriously embarrassed the Clinton administration. He is now too old to play a SEAL. Magnum as a PI again? Maybe.

That was pretty good but one of my favorites was when Rick's sister was unfortunately murdered and he and his UZI SMG got some payback. Oh ya, I'm watching the series finale from season 8, "Transitions" right now! Taped that sucka earlier this week.

I got one of them fake non-firing 1911s too. I also found a spare mag for it at a local gunshow. I've also go those fake machined brass ammo. I too was disappointed when Tom Selleck decided not to do any more Magnum PIs. I look forward to the movie and the rest of the cast.
