www.vicmord.com/ I listened to an interview with Victor Mordecai yesterday in which he said the goal of Islam is to destroy any "infidel", Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Bhuddist, Pagan, atheist, whatever, and he would be surprised if we don't have suicide bombers like Israel has seen in this country.

Every once in a very great while, I find that Tom Friedman says something that's intelligent. Not bad for a NYTimes columnist. Eric The(Concerned)Hun[>]:)]

the japanese tried suicide bombing in ww2, and it failed. while i have to admire their courage and devotion to their cause, it's plain they lack good sense, and place no value on human life. maybe we should set up "martyrdom centers", little offices with comfy chairs, music, banners, prayers, and a furnace and dumpster in the back, so the martyr-wannabes can turn themselves in (to the landfill).

Israel is hamstrung by the same liberal-appeasment mentality that our Gov't has been plagued with for decades. The paradoxically anti-Western culture being imposed by Socialists in Europe and "progressive" Democrats has no room for the notion that Western Civilization is under assault from without - because they are too busy assaulting it from within to even notice. Our socialists in Congress are too full of their own irrational visions of a United Nations-centered, multicultural New-World Order and securing their place in the powerseats to even care that the foundations of American civilization are threatened - hence the "partisan" bickering over Pickering, self-congratulatory adulation over an unneccessary and unconstitutional CFR, and the suicidally-myopic resistance to drilling in ANWR. We are chewing off our own foot that is trapped by nothing more than the withering grasp of a dying raghead in Afghanistan rather than summoning our enormous military strength and economic power and focusing it like a laser beam at every decrepit warlord who ever oozed out from beneath their third-world rubble piles. I certainly agree - Israel is just a stepping stone to the West.

Anyone who has read my posts regarding Israel knows that beyond Israel's right to exist I am not a supporter. (Yes, I've been called a racist and a bigot (most recently by 'redmanfarms') for my views but couldn't care less.) I do not much care what the Israelis and the Palestinians do to each other as neither are strategic to the United States and I'm tired of U.S. taxpayer money funding the Israeli war machine with money that is desperately needed to rebuild our own military. All of the above having been said I strongly support point number three. My only small difference is my belief that United States troops are necessary (NOT UN troops) to enforce a peace. My only other stipulation is that the rules-of-engagement must be crystal clear that our military may fire on either Israelis or Palestinians if attacked. If attacked by either side I would like to see one square block of the side firing reduced to rubble. This cannot be just another chance for the politicians in Washington (and the military) to get a few of us killed and then pull-out.

"Fourth, U.S or NATO troops must guarantee any Israeli-Palestinian border". God, I saw this coming from a mile away!!! I find Mr. Friedman predictable...... but scary! As you can see, there are already those calling for the US "ersatz troops" to put their lives on the line and allow the Israelis to remove themselves from their predicament! DaMan

I'm thinking there may be no other politically acceptable way to stop this war other than introducing U.S. troops. My first choice remains to stop all U.S. funding to either side. That's not going to happen so long as there is the New York Times, Dan Rather, Schumer, Feinstein, etc.

Abandonning our allies (yes, Irsael is our ally), in their time of need, will harm our credibility. We would appear weak. It would embolden our enemies, and encourage more acts of terror. It would be foolish and self-destructive.

It almost succeeded. They were sinking ships faster than we could build them for awhile there. Only our industrial capacity and their lack of resources prevented the strategy from working.

We had no such problems when we abounded the "Republic of China" (Taiwan). Taiwan was an ally and a strong ally. When I look at allies of the United States I find the pickings slim when I move past Canada and Great Britain. Now if we are going to explore purchasing allies I would far rather purchase Russia and for reasons too numerous to attempt to list.

Seems Mr Friedman forgets to mention that Radical jews had no problem killing innocent civilians in the name of god to bring about the state of Israel in the late 30's and 40's. Comparing what is happening there to what happened on 911 is pure BS, the Palestinians are fighting to get their land back using pretty much the same tactics of terror the Israeli's themselves used...

???? Lets see... 9/11: Suicide bombers hoping to become "martyrs" attacking civilians, killing them. Victims include men, women and children. Passover Massacre, etc.: Suicide bombers hoping to become "martyrs" attacking civilians, killing them. Victims include men, women and children. Seems an apt comparison. You don't think so, huh? But comparing the "radical Jews" of the 30's and 40's to Hamas IS an apt comparison?? Odd.

It will be like trying to separate two scorpions in a jar from killing each other.... with your bare hand!!! My advice? Just keep the lid on and let them go at it with NO outside support! And squash either scorpion that tries to spread the fight beyond the jar! DaMan

How, exactly, do we prevent "outside support" to the Palestinians?

I think that this is a really bad idea and who be akin to opening a pandora's box. The US Military is sympathetic to Israel and I think most American's are... Really, watch TV... They look like us, most speak perfect english, with what amounts to a bit of a Northern accent. The first time the Us Military lights up some Palestinians the arab world will raise holy hell.

We don't. We support them, because they're our friends and allies. That's what allies do. To do otherwise would be foolish. But answer the question. How do we prevent "outside support" of the Palestinians?
