But I wouldn't be surprised if there were "sleeper trolls" or "seminar posters" from the other side here.

Talking about ANYTHING being "marginalized" is a dead giveaway as well.

I thnk they are trolls. [:k]

I also think we should marginalize them by ignoring their troll like acts while at the same time respecting their diversity and celebrating the fact that we are at different ends of the same side. (huh?)

Good point, BeeKeeper...I'll mind my "words" in the future.  Gee, and here I thought diversity was a good thing - thanks for pointing that out!

Leftist? Me or my writings? Who knows?

The funny thing is that I'm more to the right than most people on this site, if my string shows anything.  Take my more diverse topic - compulsory government service - shades of FDR, right?

The one thread of truth that remains constant on this board is the fact that people will speak up and be heard.  In that regard, let me say that I've enjoyed my limited time  that I've been a member, and will continue to enjoy it in the future.

so, if they want everyone to "get along", why would they pick a word that means to form into smaller groups of similar interests?

Bee_Keeper,

Don't think I was attacking you or your chums, either.

In fact, I spent an afternoon and evening defending myself for defending this forum's right to not have postings with illegal activity being posted. To be honest, I thought many would agree with me, as I assumed (another Clintonesque word, I know) that my fellow members would all stand up and say, " you know, he's right - we can't have stuff like that going on here."

The really funny thing was that I was asked for details, and I wouldn't budge - I kept the guy's user id out of this whole string, and only at the end did I vaguely mention what he did that was illegal.  To which a fellow member agreed.

Instead, I was blasted all afternoon by those who thought I was threatening to take away their visitation privileges to Napster's web site.

Some people actually accused me of writing things that I didn't even write, even though the thread was there for everyone to see!

Well, you guys are the residents of this place.  I'm just a new visitor.  I will tell you, though, that it was kind of ironic that I was having to defend myself for backing the USC and, technically, the Constitution, against a bunch of fellow gun owners.  That was very strange, and I doubt could be repeated again.

So tomorrow, then?

I will say this in defense of AndyTN,
As a professional in this business, I have NEVER downloaded an mp3 from the net. First of all, I don't need/want to, second,he is correct on this point. Copyright is an area expressly enumerated in the constitution. I have produced dozens of albums, & this would be similar to me releasing a client's master tapes without authorization. Technically, I could be sued for doing this, & would probably lose. However, it's not my position to judge others who do this, in fact, some artists encourage people to download.

"IMHO", however, is a sleeper agent par exellance'

AndyTN,

Anytime anyone posts a controversial topic they are expected to defend themselves...even if it's the Constitution(sp?).  Even us gunowners see that document differently.  That is one of the great things about this sight, our [red]diversity[/red] of viewpoints on many issues.

I doubt you are a troll, but have a feeling you will be posting many controversial topics.  Your choice of topic, your views on those same topics, how intelligently you defend your views, and lastly your sense of humor and maturity will be the parameters by which you will be judged/viewed around here.

I enjoy reading intelligent and opposing viewpoints, but only when my opinion is allowed as much weight as that of my advisary.

Sgtar15

PS Welcome to the board.

You are just noticing things like this? People like to set up bogus accounts to further their point of view (often of a religious or ethnic nature). Other sites seem to at least log and publicly display your address, which cuts down on it a little.

Regarding the gross overuse of the word you singled out for contempt. This modern usage (put into circulation by white liberals - and like "people of color") of the word IS disgusting. When used without reference it always refers to race, as if that should be something obvious!

I'd like to explain:
I used the word "diversity" as a form of the word "diverse" because I prefer it to PitViper's "varying".  I don't know why my messages caused the lefty-liberal Red Scare that they did.

You can see from my messages that I favor literal interpretation.  Yes, PitViper, this does mean that I'm less able to interpret your sarcasm the way I ought to, but I feel that it's better to be safe than sorry before jumping to conclusions when I think that I may be dealing with smart asses and facetious people.  Better, I think, to take a man at his word at first, and then to take grains of salt as time goes on.  Out of this comes humor, and peaceful understanding.
The literal interpretation also applies to American citizenship, and a defense of our country.  I took flak while defending a First Lady against attack.  You may not like Eleanor Roosevelt or Hillary Clinton, and you may get a thrill out of calling them names, or by calling them ugly, but I will defend them because they are important Americans.  Granted, their political views are different than some on this board, but I feel a need to support our nation and history.  I can be embarrassed when challenged by people who feel that ours is a story of slavery and genocide, but I defend our country always and forever.  I guess the analogy that comes to mind is being nasty to a girlfriend because her past isn't what I want it to be.  I may wish that it were different, but if I love the girl now, then I have to have faith in her ability to mature, and in her ability to learn from lessons in the past.  After all, the experiences make her into the woman I love today.  Love it or leave it.  I often find myself jumping on people who don't support America, just as I did in my thread.  Disagree with opinions, evaluate leaders, exercise your freedoms to their limit, stretch your liberties, and be patrotic.  I also am angered, as you have seen, by people who seek to undermine our government.  I may have misinterpreted many feelings with my tendency to accept men at their word, but I find it difficult to make that rationalization when people write things like:

[buying a Pre-Ban rifle is] "my way of saying a big FU to the gubmint"

Remarkably treacherous, and intolerable at a time like this.  I must, I think, learn to display greater restraint for the fair-weather friends of the USA, and learn not to react with such fury each time I see this sort of Anti-American behavior; for even here, in a place where people swear to defend literal interpretation of the Constitution, and where many are intimate with those who shed blood to defend it, this sort of remark goes unnoticed.
I hope that this explains my words.

I think that buying guns to piss people off is misguided for three reasons:

1) The guns are legal.  Buying a gun like this is not an act of defiance.  I think that if a person wants to make a change, then they will break laws, and then challenge the system.  If Gandhi and King are not examples that you like, then turn to Thoreau.  He is a true American.

2) You believe that you are pissing people off, but they don't know that you have the guns.  You are not pissing anywhere.  True, they may be pissed off that these guns exist, but they don't necessarily know that you have one.  PitViper, you see the stupidity in displaying a weapon in a way that upsets people.  I don't do this because I am a naturally peaceful person, but, in fact, an act like this is illegal where I live.  How is doing what you all claim to do piss off Brady or Feinstein or Schumer?  They are not concerned with you as individuals unless you are constituents, and your belief that you are pissing them off is nonsense.  They don't care about, or for, you or your interests.  Agreed, you may be upsetting some other folks at the range or at camp when you bring your "ugly" rifle out, but why try to do that?  Incidentally, I don't think that the rifle looks ugly or menacing, but beautiful in a Bauhaus kind of way.

3) The pissing off is not productive.  HappyShooter, are you aware of the voting record for Durby or Fitzgerald vs. the Brady campaign?  Why don't you take a look at the current bradycampaign.org homepage and see what's written about Illinois?  What are you doing over there?  Maybe you are quite active, and a search of your posts may reveal what I hope is true:  that you react with resolve to make a difference.  Phoenix, have you seen Levin's?  I've seen in the past couple of days a lot of really tough talk from people who are out of control in Washington.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.  I have read and carefully considered each of your comments many times, and this is my reply.

I am no troll.

Sometimes Mr. X it just can't be said better.

The animal comparisons that you seem so amused by, may have a cultural resonance for you, that not being of your ethnicity goes beyond my powers of appreciation.

Not an immigrant, perhaps having just passed his citizenship test and marvelling at our firearms 'privileges'? raf, the only reason I'm chiming in on this pretty much useless, thread is to defend myself as an individual who's not aligned with anyone. I don't know anything about this AndyTN guy, but over there in Jack 'n' Jill detectiveville, we've got beekeeper and his first rate sleuths in the Mystery Machine cruisin' around looking for masks to pull on. Some of these guys are convinced look at all the meddlin' that shooter's up to. BAA to you black sheep. Why don't you take your magnifying glass and go burn some ants on the sidewalk? This comparison to some other dude on the board is, if you'll forgive the expression, BS. I started a thread, and asked about the practical benefits of paying a couple hundo for stuff like bayonet lugs, and some of these good ol' yokels got their panties all bundled up just because I was speaking to them like I would any other adults. I have been speaking with respect, but I'm afraid that none of you deserve it. I'm happy to take it easy, to take it all in stride, to keep the Morton's on the desktop, because I think that it's all in the name of fun. I hate to have to defend myself against this kinda roar, but I think that I had to speak up and defend myself against these wacky Sherlocks and their word search accusations. I've been a visitor here for quite a while, and I actually took the time to read some stuff before polluting the board with "Uh, what's the dif' between .223 and 5.56?" or "What's the best make of AR's?" I've joined because I need to get some specific answers. As for the handguard question, people don't seem to know loose from Cheyenne. This is a whole nother kinda culture here that I share some interests with, but, man alive! Take it easy, there, with your troll accusations and BS cartoons. I never really gave much attention to author names before some of them started dumping on my questions, but, my goodness, I think that some of these jokers have hundreds of posts that are nothing more than answers to "What's your favorite TV dinner?" threads.

So, take 'er easy, there, wild times.
Just tryin' to get some info about a rifle, that's all. Chill the * out with your "socialist" accusation diarrhea, and go get that crusty ol' treasure map out of grandpa's ol' footlocker. You might find some pirates!

Diversity sux.

My suggestion? Just be yourself.

Seriously, I too have a problem with using the "lefts" words and catch phrases with my freinds / other "conservatives" (i.e. people to the right of Russ Feingold)

For example -

A good friend of mine was attempting to make a joke about me and my firearms, and said "You are such a cliche."

While I wasn't angry, I was curious exactly what "cliche" he found me to be - the redneck idiot, or the militant militia wannabe, or the one step from the edge psychotic gunman cliche.

IMO, you CANNOT use the same tactics, phrases and catch words that the left uses, and have them across as either funny or sincere.

Words denotative defintions are almost irrelevant these days. Their connotations (i.e. "baggage" )is FAR more important in what people say / type.

Well, that's my $0.36 (adjusted for inflation)
