At the local VFW, a friend of mine named Jack Eller has been going through a tough spot with diabetes, though he quit drinking years ago, and has been doing what he can to do what he should.
About a month ago, his doc told him they were going to have to take his leg. After consultation with another doc, and treatment in a hyperbaric chamber, the flesh has started to heal, and they will start skin grafts on Monday, and not take the leg.
This may seem like small potatoes to some of you, and a little gross, but I am now 2 years older than my father when he died due to diabetes, and I got carded last week.
I was just getting sick of seeing all the deaths, injuries, and bad luck on the local bulletin board that I had to shout this one to the rafters.
This is the FIRST time I've ever heard of a diabetic with leg wounds being able to save the leg, and I am DAMNED joyous over it.
