At least with that ugly little thing, you can be the 10th owner, run reloads through it, blow it up, and Hi-Point will replace it.
Try that with a $1200.00 HK.
I had exactly that happen guy stuck 3 bullets in a 40 caliber carbine barrel
bulged it a bit
Hi point rebuilt the thing no questions asked and sent him a new sling , scope mount and magazine back with it to boot
their pistols are shit but if I was young and broke I would be all over a Hi Point rifle
When a brand new gun costs < $300 (retail), then sending out a couple parts to make customers happy makes alot of sense. The barrel probably cost them $9.99 to make
absolutely true
but going on swingset's comment
say you do it to a $1500 gun
the barrel in it probably cost $50 to make
% is close to the same
With a few minor exceptions
I bet if you sent that weapon back to the factory
they will charge you $150 for a barrel maybe $50 to install it and return shipping
Hi point didn't charge this guy a dime for his own stupidity
actually now that think about it most of the Hi Points I have sent in have been for the owners stupidity
reloads... buldged barrel blown out extractors etc
disassemble it and lose/break parts
over tighten screws and break the plastic
but as you stated I also suspect they are making a pile of money on these things
