Feds launch crackdown on gun-toting felons
   Associated Press  (AZ)
   March 12, 2002

PHOENIX (AP) - The feds are ready to help launch a crackdown on
gun-toting criminals walking the streets.
The program is called Project Safe Neighborhoods and it will target
guns and violence and will result in tough mandatory sentences, many of
them in out-of-state federal prisons. The Phoenix Police Department is the
first in the state to embrace the national program, which was announced
this year by the Bush administration, said Phoenix police Chief Harold
Hurtt.
"Last year in Phoenix, we had 245 homicides, up from 172 the previous
year," Hurtt said. "We cannot let it go any higher. We have to take some
very aggressive action."
Under the program, people who use firearms to commit crimes may be
prosecuted under federal gun laws that mandate five-year prison sentences,
and possibly up to 10 if other crimes are involved, said Paul Charlton,
the U.S. attorney for Arizona.
The program kicks into gear in three to four weeks.

In other news, all gun owners have been declared "gun toting felons."

I live near Richmond.  I've never been through a Project Exile checkpoint but I've talked with VA State Police who run them.  They couldn't care less if you're armed as long as you're not a convicted felon, fugitive or other assorted bad guy.  Several memebers of my gun club have told about going through the checkpoints and being given exactly ZERO trouble.

Project EXILE is a good thing.  If that's what they do in Phoenix you WILL see a difference.

It's a better solution than more bans for all

Good luck, open carry is legal in AZ, CCW is legal with a permit.

I live in AZ and I have no complaints.

Get the scumbag wastoid gangbanga's off the street permanently!

We should start in downtown Tempe - GOD that's a hellhole on weekend evening!  A veritable carnival freakshow of human waste and thugs.

My only concern is when the statistics start coming in that most of the felons picked up are blacks or hispanic, the liberals will start even more intrusive attacks on legal gun-owners just to make it racially "fair".

It is about time they started sending people to jail for a long time for using firearms in crimes. These are the people that are getting our gun rights taken away slowly. If people would just see that the criminals are not going to abide by any laws and that only law abiding citizens are the ones subject to these laws that were put in place to control criminals and they just laugh at them.
