It used to be 3 months, but the last couple of site cleanups have happened after 2 months. I think the Goat does this at random, so there is no clear cut time limit.

Can threads be resurrected from the archives? I was hoping that one would stay active...

Once the threads are put into Archive, it takes an act of Goat to get them back. Given how busy he is with a bunch of other stuff, I'd be surprised if this could be done anytime soon.
