I'm in on this thread. Been shooting a 1955 Husqvarna in .270 Wichester for all my life. Have killed deer, antelope, hogs and one Elk about 30 years ago. Settled on 140 grain bullets as a universal bullet weight. Plenty of different bullet construction options to suit whatever game you seek. CRF but no DBM, but thats ok with me. It is essentially an FN commercial Mauser action. Extremely strong action and a very accurate rifle too. It's a never sell gun due to the family history that goes with it. View Quote For some reason, the .270 is one cartridge for which I have an irrational dislike. Best thing about a .270 is that it is almost a .280. |

I hunt with an AR15/10, Rem 700 and a Win M70? I pick the right tool for the hunt.

If I don't get a hunting rifle forum soon, I am gonna be forced to turn my hunting rifle into a precision rifle!!!

Bought a Savage 12fv in 6.5 Creedmoor. Backordered. Maybe by the time I get it there will be a home for it here on Arfcom.
If not I'll post it in the Grooming forum. |

I have a co-worker wanting an AR.. I was thinking of selling him my oldest one and turning it into a Ruger American .450 Bushmaster https://images.kygunco.com/Products/1890.jpg Anyone have any good/bad on them? View Quote That 450 is gonna be expensive to feed if you don't reload. |

The hot Ruger right now is the Ruger American Ranch. 7.62x39, .310 bore for steel ammo, and uses Mini-30 mags. That 450 is gonna be expensive to feed if you don't reload. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Fucking bolt doesn't lock when on safe. Hate it. Just hate it. Other than that our RA was a lightweight affordable accurate rifle. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

My other bolt rifles are all Remington 700's. I like being able to lock the bolt but I don't think it's ideal to have to deactivate the safety to unload the rifle.

In for the support. I love my Ar's, but there is something about a Blued and Walnut stocked bolt gun.

How accurate is your rifle?
I have heard mixed reports on Remington's pump and semi auto centerfire rifles. Always wanted to pick up one of each. Always a couple of used ones in the local pawn shops. |

My uncle has kept it most of that time, but I borrowed it in 2012 to take on a deer hunt. I sighted it in and shot a deer with it and gave it back. |

I've worked a number of 'Sight In Days' events at my local club, helping hunters get their rifles sighted before the season starts. What I've found from this... Most hunters don't know jack about ballistics or their own equipment, generally. Many of the 'hunting rifles' have old cheap Tasco and Redfield scopes that have issues, and I'd throw them away if I were them. Unserviceable (e.g.; bad, rotted seals, older greases causing internal parts to stick when adjusting, etc) Most of the optics haven't been set up very well, had misalignment issues when made, have worked loose, have worked loose just in the course of firing 20 rounds that day, etc. A lot of others are old guns with dirt and rust anywhere that can't be immediately seen. Warped wooden stocks. Pitted bores. Chambers that need to see a chamber brush. There are a number of good rifles too. Quite a few. But no where near as many people that simply know the fundamentals, know their equipment very well, or know what their trajectory looks like at various ranges. The rest, lately, have been the Axis's and American's. Quite a few of those. Watch them group two and throw one all day long. My honest take away... there are a bunch of adults out in the woods just trying to hit something who can't call their shots. I know 'ethical kill' is sort of backwards, but that's what I'd require of myself. Lots of stories of misses and drawn-out kills from deer hunters. Work Sight In days and you'll understand why. And as for the rifles... generally not very well taken care of and taken out once a year. Lots of old ones, from grandpa's that passed away or something. The owners are almost never serious shooting types. Just once a year. Not sure you could make a sub forum or section out of them. Even the Precision Rifle section here pales to some of the others. View Quote That said...I did pick up a Ruger American in .30-06 when Walmart has them on clearance for $199. It shoots 1.25” five shot groups at 100yds with cheap Remington corelokt 150gr ammo. That’s plenty good for most any hunter... on the east coast anyways. |

Where else would I be able to discuss a CZ527 conversion to 6.5 Grendel for use hunting everything from Pdogs to Antellope to Elk? (Currently I'm trying to decide on barrel contours. Bouncing between a Shilen #4, # 5.5, or wondering if something heavier would be better for supporting a suppressor.) View Quote |

Ya, last Fall there were a bunch of active threads in GD and PR a about hunting guns.
I'm not giving up. |

I had high hopes after the Aimless thread in GD a few months ago.
Oh well. bump |
