Not sure of any models off hand but a idea you can surprise her with is something called a lithophane.  Grab your favorite photo and run it through here. https://itslitho.com/ Then print the file it spits out.  They're pretty neat.

I ran into that too and will definitely give it a try. I'd really like to print her off a 1/4 scale pooch she can sit on her desk at work.

Appreciate the research. Kinda defeats the purpose of making one myself for her though.

Newb question for the hive: one the first pass of the raft, sometimes the bead doesn't stick down right away and can get caught up on the nozzle. What's the best way to cure this? Right now I just watch it and clip off the flyaway until it starts to stick down.

Printing a Vise Block for my AR10 / PSA10 upper.  Fingers crossed that it fits!

Didn't come with the inner BCG Brace, so whipped one up and will print a test portion after the blocks finish.  Probably not needed, but won't hurt.

Kill Dozer!

found on thingiverse the model was not watertight and I didn't know how to fix that  it would be nice if the guy who designed it did the track separate so you could print them in a different color but I'm happy with the way it turned out and think it's pretty cool

I was messing around the other day and shock it worked

then I learned about scaling and if the model has writing it will burn through

I just started 3D printing and found some cool and useful things on Thingiverse.  I have been away from this site for a while so it was nice to stumble upon this thread

Flexi-Rex

Jewelry Tree

Clip On dual golf ball holder

Filament Spool Adapters (I bought some filament spools that had a huge middle circle (3 inch diameter) and wouldn't fit on my Maker Select Plus.  If anybody else has this model printer, let me know, I'd like to know what kind of mods you have done to it.

A big nut.

The other part is a comparable bolt with a hollow in the middle for use as a pen holder. Ran the nut first to see how the quality was before dedicating 18 hours to the bolt. And I think I want to print both in a gray or maybe gray bolt and bronze nut.

most prints will take a little fitting with some sandpaper or files,  if your brave enough a dremel but it will create heat and melt the plastic if your not careful

QC gauges for a thing I'm doing at work. Notches on the side are for checking 1/8 and 1/4 inch critical dimensions. Small end is for 1/2", big end is for 1". Holes in the middle are for checking the radial offset of a mold gate- put the point on the center of the part, and if the gate is visible in the small (3mm) hole it's good. If it's not visible in the small one it's at least a "minor" defect, and if it's not visible in the big (6mm) hole then it's a "major" defect.

If you check the dimensions against the print and make sure that you've calibrated your printer well, you can get prints that don't need hand-fitting.

If I remember that particular model correctly, the dimensions aren't quite accurate.

I inadvertantly ran the bolt at a higher quality than the nut so the finish is much better on it. Kinda want to re-do the nut in a different color any way.

The hairspray on glass trick works awesome. After its cooled you can practically breathe on it and itll come loose. I've still got some filament stuck to my stock bed that I cant get off.

Using Fusion 360 to design a funnel.

To make filling the final drives of skid loaders that I work on easier, I made up an adapter that screws into the fill plug and I can pour the oil into it that will then run into the final. Problem is that the adapter I made doesn't hold much so you have to constantly top it off. The oil is super thick and the hole that you fill it through has components right behind it that slow the flow of oil into it and will back up and run out of the hole and make a mess (and waste product). I modeled up a cylinder with the correct threads, but couldn't figure out how to make a funnel shape. Got that sorted and opened it with Cura, then found out that slicer programs only read in mm and I had everything modeled in Freedom Units. Ok fine, just changed a setting in Fusion and it converted everything...except the threads, it made it some weird super coarse thread. Then I saw it would be a 24 hour print. I didn't want to waste filament and time on something that won't work. So I made an adapter for the adapter. It also made it a 30 minute print on crappy quality just to flush out the prototype. I then remodeled the funnel so that it would screw onto the adapter (it has to be in 2 pieces otherwise I can't put the cap on to hold the adapter in place and seal against the o-ring to prevent messes.

Yes, this is way overkill for a minor "problem", but it's a fun (and slightly frustrating) way to learn.

Adapter I fabri-cobbled a couple years ago.

Cap that normally has a slug in the center so you can cap off lines. I just knocked it out.

First funnel idea.

Adapter piece.

Still trying to figure out how to get rid of the zits. They don't show up on my calibration cube, but did show up on my benchy's.  Printed two spice racks but did one with coasting. I got maybe smaller zits but still in the same place.

I love my Ruger SR9C, but the SR series has been well and truly retired by Ruger now and magazines are starting to get hard to find. 17 round mags are still out there, but 10 round mags for carry use are about extinct, and I only had the one that came with the gun. I wanted a backup.

It turns out that Security 9 pistols use the exact same magazine catch and feed lip geometry, they're just a bit shorter. This makes for a somewhat complex magazine interchangeability matrix, because Ruger. A SR magazine of any size will work in a Security 9 of any size but with some wiggle up and down, and a Security 9 15 round magazine will work in an SR9 compact, but not a full size.

What I wanted was a security 9 compact 10 round magazine to fit my SR9 compact, which requires a new slightly taller floor plate.

The two 10 round magazines side by side, the SR on the right the Security9 on the left, showing the slight difference in length. My daughters placemat made for a convenient photo background.
Attachment Attached File

The original Security 9 floor plate on the left, followed by a series of prototypes to refine the fit and better match the SR grips curves.
Attachment Attached File

The final product on a magazine, installed in the frame. Latches in great and the top of the mag lands right where the original SR parts do.

Designed in Onshape, which I couldn't recommend highly enough.
