Busy weekend. I've had an approved form 1 for over a year now because I couldn't decide what I wanted to build.  Originally I was going to do a DeLisle.  Instead I made a modern DeLisle. Built on a cmmg guard, so it's delayed blow back.

Suppressor is pinned and welded to make a permanent 16.2" barrel.  It's 1.5" under the guard and 2.0" in front, lots of volume.

You gonna build something similar? You should this is quiet as fuck!

Quieter than my blowback 9mm AR with pistol can, I think quieter than my 300 with subs.

I have been working on a design for an integral .22 AR upper...  And I have been thinking of doing a DeLisle inspired 10/22 or Ruger American .22

Not going to lie I was a little bummed when I saw that you weren't going to do a traditional De Lisle.

But, that is really awesome!

Where did you get the design for it?

It's my own design although the baffle geometry is based on Omega baffles.

Id be interested in the prints if you're willing to share. I'm going to need something to build on my lathe in the future.

Any plans to do a traditional De Lisle in the future?

Here's a porcine entry tool for a brother Arfcommer to murder hogs with.   It's .220" 3V, heat treated with cryo to 61 RC.  Photo bomb of the steps I've taken so far.

The method or a knife?

I plan to do a lot of picturesque damascus (don't know what else to call it) knives this year.

What's a M00?

How do you polish park finish?

Damascus on a one piece would be pretty cool.

Updated video please.

How do you polish park finish? The same way you polish anything.  With polishing compound.

And that doesn't negatively impact the parkerization? I know it's not paint, but I guess I haven't seen park finish polished before, curious how that works.  Did you polish the park finish on the damascus knife for your mom?

Yes, that's polished.  There's more to it than simply polishing.  But to be brief, it's like the difference between bluing an already polished gun and a gun that was just sandblasted.  They both are blue.  They have vastly different appearances.

The phosphate layer left by parkerizing is much thicker and more durable than the oxide left by bluing, so yes, it can without negative impact be polished to a certain extent.  Just like wet sanding a clear coat without cutting through it to the paint.

This is something no one else seems to have realized yet.  The biggest trick is getting a part with a fine surface finish to come out of the park tank with a uniform finish.  It's easy if the part is blasted.  Less so the finer the surface finish is.

I didn't realize it was thick enough to do that.

Link Posted: 1/23/2019 1:25:37 PM EDT
[#45]
It's less about how thick it is and more about how tough it is, I think.  You can absolutely blow right through the color layer.  But like anodizing, the color isn't the sum of the protective qualities.  It's incredibly hard to, with a typical buffer and fine (pink or white diamond) compound buff completely through parkerizing to bare metal.

It's easy however to buff through the color layer, especially on outside corners.  So it takes a little practice and care to do.
