I just know I'm going to get a bottle of Stagg in our state lottery this year.  Yeah right.  It's nice to dream though. LOL.

I don't know if Alabama's control board does a lottery.

Rural ABC stores never carry any good stock.

What is it with the IF you win?  There's a whopping 124 bottles of Stagg for the whole state.  We'll probably both win a bottle .

Nice!!!

Do you guys have a lottery or can you just grab them off the shelf?

What do they sell for?  In PA they are $99.99 for any of them.  But like I said above - we only got 124 bottles of the Stagg for the whole state.

Edit - I see the poster above you said they were on the shelf.

Walked in just after they arrived  I got very lucky.  $89:90 each plus the tax.  No lottery for the consumer however the store I got them in won the lottery with the state to get them.  Really screwed up system.  Lucky for me I travel NC/SC daily for work. I stop in ever store I pass .

I passed this store this morning and could not stop because of my schedule.  On the way home I stopped and this was left.  Clerk said they received 3 Handy and 3 Stagg had I had time to stop it would have been a great day.  First time in 8 years living here that I have gotten this lucky.  Tomorrow will be an 11 hour day on the road with a lot of stores to pass. We will see if the luck continues.

Great news.  I got the email today.

I didn't win shit in the lottery. .  39,000 people signed up for the lottery drawing for something like 600 various bottles.

Hey, there's always next year.

Picked up my bottle of Thomas Handy last week.
Haven't tried it yet. My nephews wife just had a baby girl today. We're visiting next weekend.
Going to open it up then, to toast her birth.

AL has no lottery, it's a first come first served deal, some random day the beginning of Nov, each year.
Thankfully the ABC location I tried this am did a list/ticket deal to keep the chaos to a minimum.

Crappy pic, but I came home with this:

That Stagg Jr is something else, when your favorite go to is in the 90 proof range.
I might or might not be feeling good right now.

Ok, what can you/y’all tell me about my bottle? All I know is that it’s a single barrel select pick.

Not sure why the round sticker was added but otherwise that is a beautiful bottle of standard Blanton's Single Barrel. Each bottle of Blanton's come from one sinle specific barrel and you can see all that info there on the label; barrel number, warehouse (always will be warehouse H as far as I know), and rick number. As mentioned, Blantons is not a seasonal release but is a limited release throughout the year- again as far as I know. The cork tops vary slightly in design and each features a letter in the word "Blantons." So keep buying until you collect them all!

I got my first bottle ever just last week as a gift and it is delicious stuff!

The round sticker indicates a store selected that particular barrel as it's own private barrel.  It's referred to as a "barrel pick" around here.  I've seen Weller 107, Blanton's, and Eagle Rare barrel picks with similar stickers at several locations.  They had the store name on the sticker.  The "B" on the stopper is the first letter in the word "Blantons."  There's a thread on the subject a little further down in this section.  Collect all the letters, contact Buffalo Trace's gift shop, and they'll mount them on a barrel stave for free.  On the Blanton's site a stave is $99.00, on the Buffalo Trace site it's $63.00.  Either way, free is better.  Communicated with Buffalo Trace on the phone, then email, and they said sent them all 8 stopper and they'd mount them free.  Sent on 28 Oct, 2 - 3 week turn around.  Will post pictures on receipt.

I heard that Blanton's, and maybe the whole company line, does not let you pick your barrel anymore with these "select single barrel" releases that go to liquor stores, state distribution centers, etc.  Not to say that they aren't good, just that you get whatever barrel THEY pick and bottle for you.  We have a group that was considering buying a barrel and splitting up the bottles a couple years ago!

One of the local store managers said they received 5 or 6 small samples from different barrels and they picked from these.  Another manager physically traveled to the distillery and picked from about the same number of offerings.  Not sure a private individual could get in on the act.

I'm not sure if all distilleries offer buying barrels. Some do, but a lot depends on the state you are from. PA will not allow it.
If you can afford it, they usually let you have your pick of 3 barrels.
The Master Distiller will ask you what flavor profiles you are looking for and will pull 3 barrels for you to pick from.
Usually ranges from about $8000 on up.

Anyone get in on the Pappy Van Winkle lotteries that are going on in controlled states?
PA just held theirs, waiting on the results this week. Hopefully get picked for a chance again.
Ohio also just had theirs.
