I would say congratulations, but that's not always a good thing :)

Best advice for an incoming Master?

What does that mean?  Is it like being certified proficient?

And, Congratulations Brother!

My advice?  Write all your plans in pencil.  They are going to change.

So far, Symbolic Lodge is the only thing I've only been the head of once.

In UT the SW and JW can obligate and raise guys.  By the time someone gets to be WM here they should be proficient in that stuff.  Let the SW and JW become proficient.

We don't have a requirement as to who can, or must, confer the degrees.  It's "suggested" that the JW confer the EA, SW the FC and WM the MM; but not required.  I've seen high speed, low drag JD's and SD's confer the EA and FC:  and JW's and SW's do the MM.

For years we used ringer PM's.  When I was JW we started doing it the, in my opinion, correct way.  The only degree I didn't confer during those three years, was the first MM when I was Master.  It was the day after I got out of the hospital after a week from having 13" of ruptured colon removed.  But, I was there, opened and closed.  Yeah, dumb-ass I know.

Here you can only be elected and sit as Master if you have been previously elected JW, SW or WM.

That is quite an accomplishment!

We were founded in 1848, but have had more than a few multi term masters :)

Interesting.  According to our GL Code, only someone who has been installed a Master or Warden can confer a degree.

In our district any MM can confer the a degree, but they have to be passed off prior by either the DDGM or the head of the school of instruction.

You and I are in the same state, I've Never heard it called passed off.

Anyone in my lodge can do degrees, and they do. Our in lodge ritualistic instructor makes sure they know it, but I've Never heard it called passed off.

I'm doing my first trip to the oriental chair.  John H. Atwood Lodge #461 in Kansas we were founded last year and I'm the first elected master of the lodge.  Last year the officers were all appointed by the Grand Master of Kansas and I had the privilege of being the charter Sr. Warden.

my lodge was 1876, second oldest to The Lodge in apopka FL which was 1859, some of the elders here speak of the lodges during those times having members of both sides of the war sitting in uniform during stated communications.
