If you get a chance definitely check it out. I think it goes down as one of my top 5 favorites. I rented it on Amazon.

Set in current times. Some kind of zombie/virus plague wiped out 90% of the population. When it originally broke out a bunch of Dallas cops and swat officers grabbed their families and fortified the police station and lived in the jail cells there. They would then go out on patrols to look for supplies and survivors. The virus reminded me of the one from 28 days later. The infected could only operate in the night because sun light would kill them. So all the cops could come out in the day time. Lots of gun porn and good tactics seeing how the survivors weren't civilians, but all tactical guys.

By the director of Sinners and Saints, Jarhead 3, Marine 4...and supervising the end of Cuba Gooding Jr's career.

I thought it was pretty good, especially when you consider the budget they had to work with.  Worth a watch.

I watched it tonight and thought it was really good for what they had

Its very good.  The only thing they didn't get 100%, was the spooky danger feeling you get from Dawn of the Dead or some of the better zombie books.  Its probably because everyone in it was HAM, instead of scared civs.

Best zombie movie in a while, and plenty of good, legit action.

Just watched it a few nights ago.  Lots of grade-A gun-porn and several shoot-outs that weren't loaded with people who looked like they were uncomfortable holding guns.

Zombie-movie purists might object to the bad guys being vampire-types, but there were no capes and bad accents (and more importantly no sparking when the sunlight hit them).

The acting was ok or maybe even better, but quite a bit of the dialogue was pretty cliché.

A few of the city street scenes reminded me of The Omega Man (which I love).  Overall, an action movie worth a watch.

My main gripe, is that my favorite part of zombie movies is the beginning when the outbreak just starts.  That is where all the good suspense comes from.

Looks like the main character is played by Johnny Strong. He also played Randy Shughart in Black Hawk Down and it looks like Johnny is paying homage to Sgt First Class Shughart in Daylight Ends, as his primary is also an M14/M1A with an Aimpoint like Stughart.

Yes, Buck Angel.

Thankfully he takes one to the head early on.  It was a painful few minutes that I had to watch him.

I really liked this movie. Has a lot of rewatch value too especially with the gun handling.

It has Sonny Puzikas in it, he has been in a few of the director's other films, he plays- go figure- a Russian Spetzna soldier.
Though not perfect in its gun handling, what movie is, it is a cut and above most. Semi fire over automatic, use of suppressors,
and actual reloading (including reloading magazines in a chest rig). The character, for the most part, use good tactics, and wore chest rigs or vests for
there reloads.
This was so much better than the "Walking Dead" with their full auto fire and no reloads carried by the characters.
