I've wanted a GSD for as long as I can remember.  Finally got one.  I got him when he was 9 weeks and he's 14 weeks now.  I've taught him sit, stay, lay down, shake, high five, play dead, leave it, and spin in that amount of time by myself.  He goes to obedience training Tuesday.  Really love this guy.  Need some ear protection for him asap.

This is Roland:

My wife teaching him Spin:

Having a Puppuccino (we have no alternatives for coffee where I live):

Trying on his MOLLE Vest.  It's a little big still but he doesn't mind it at all.

Playing with his new friend at the dog park today.

A few from our recent trip to the LA area...

Even though we were at the beach to relax from training/work, he insisted on continuing his work of sniffing.

He wasn't too happy when I told him he couldn't go on the rides.

And we found something that might be faster than him, and possibly higher maintenance too.

Kai, being lazy on the couch with Mrs. NCUrk. Separated growth plate in left front leg. Had surgery #1 3 months ago to fix it. 3 hour drive to ortho specialist in Durham and all was going well... last week she jumped up on the fence to say hi and started limping. Xray shows she snapped the screw holding said growth plate.  Now awaiting surgery #2. Doc said she isnt doing any further damage and to just let her rest till he can get her in. Seconded my our local Vet....Attachment Attached File

That sucks. I had a Chessie that broke his shoulder somehow. Paid a ton of money to pin it up and he did the same thing. Paid another ton of money to remove the hardware and vet wanted to do swim therapy. Dog was a Chessie, you couldn't keep him out of the water. He was fine until Valley Fever took him at 14. Never limped after a few months to remove the hardware.

Cain, our 3yr old having fun in the creek at our cabin.  Fly fishing with him is not going to work this year at all.    He watches the fly and attacks when a fish hits it.

Of course, my wife throwing rocks for him to do this doesn't help the behavior.....but it's dam fun to watch.

A lot of new pup pictures in this thread from beginning to now, and a few of those are even mine.

This is an encouragement post for those of you who are dealing with all those puppy traits of a Shepherd.

It's been quite a while since I've had an "adult" GSD.  I've been in puppy hell for a while since my Max was run over at 2yrs off age, then I was back to puppy all over again.

Now that Cain is 3yrs old, I'm finally starting to see that amazing behavior that convinced me I'd never own another breed of dog.

This summer has been a real surprise.  Last year at our cabin,  Cain was still testing the rules.   Deer, and smells coming down the hill were all tough for him to resist.  We had to be constantly watching what he was up to.

This summer he's had antelope come right down to our flag pole, and he came right back when I called for him, with them still in sight.    When out for a run, he comes right back when deer take off in front of us.  It's been a huge change.  He's much more calm.

To all of you in puppy "Heaven", it does get better.
