The Belgariad - David Eddings - NO! Written for teens.

Stephen R. Donaldson the white gold wielder. - Yes! Older series (2), but very good read.

I would agree with the two votes for the Thomas Covenant series by Donaldson. I read it over 30 years ago and have read countless fantasy series since then but it sticks with me while others are only vague memories.

David Eddings was one of my favorites growing up. Still pull The Belgariad and the Malloreon off the shelf for a quick read.

I enjoyed the Dark Sword trilogy too.
